back to class today, just one week
after the shooting rampage that left 32
people dead, as well as the gunman.

Yesterday several services were held
across the country to remember the
victims, including one at Washington's
National Cathedral.

School administrators have given
Virginia Tech students several options
for when and how they go back to
class-- students may finish the
semester, take a grade based on the
work they've done so far, or withdraw
from a course without penalty.

years at a university� the campus
becomes a home away from home to them�
and certain friends become an extended
family.
Returning to school today will be
the first step toward normalcy for a
number of Virginia Tech students.

Once it was announced Tuesday
that classes would be cancelled for the
entire week, many people left their
"home" at Virginia Tech to return home
to their immediate family.
That created a surreal feeling
for the students who did remain at
school last week to see the campus so
void of fellow classmates.
That will change today as
students return to campus� they'll be
back together in the physical sense and
coming together for support in the
emotional sense, as well.

have felt helpless and wondered what
they can do.
Now the United Way is offering
ways for people to help.

Radford and Floyd developed the "United
in Caring Fund" to help victims and
their families.
As of Friday- people have pledged
more than 62- THOUSAND dollars and the
non-profit hopes to raise much more.

The memorial began as a small
marching band for the national
association for the prevention of
starvation played america the beautiul.
there were approximately 60 students
including members of the track team on
hand to pay their respects.
Also, a few red cross volunteers
and clergy men gathered outside West AJ
where Emily Hilscher and Ryan Clark
were killed. The memorial was mostly
silent but closed with a violin soloist
playing Amazing Grace.
At the end of the gathering, the
procession carried strings that had 33
prayer flags and headed towards the
drillfield.

investigating shooting in Giles County
last night.
Giles County investigators say
that the shooting happened on White
Pine Road during an altercation between
two males.
Authorities say the victim was
able to drive himself to the Bland
Correctional facility.
He was later flown to Roanoke
Memorial Hospital.
No further details are available
at this time.

in Craig County busy yesterday.

Officials say the fire is under
