Gary Wayne Huffman shot and killed a
Lexington couple back in 2002.

Rhonda Chaplin was found slumped
over the steering wheel in a still
running car and her husband was lying
on the road, both shot to death in a
remote area of Augusta County.

Although Huffman was questioned
immediately and acquitted on charges he
abudcted and raped Rhonda, her brother
never doubted Huffman's guilt and hopes
he gets the maximum penalty.

what caused a deadly boating accident
on Smith Mountain Lake earlier this
month.

This Month The Department of Game and Inland
Fisheries says it was a combination of
factors.

There was a mechanical defect in
the cooling system of the boat's engine
that allowed water to be pumped into
the boat, but not out.

That caused the 33-foot
Hacker-Craft to take on too much
weight and capsize in the high wind.

64-year-old Richard Smith
of Moneta was killed in the April
Fourth accident.

44-year-old David Reynolds
of Grottoes is presumed dead. His body
has not been found.

Two other men survived,
though none of the four was wearing a
life jacket

Virginia Tech rocked on in Roanoke
today.

Several organizations hosted a
benefit concert at Elmwood Park in
Roanoke.

A slate of twelve bands took to
the stage.

All this live entertainment and
food was to raise money for the family
members of victims.

The event was called "Here's to
the Hokies".

Organizers also saw the
festivities as a way to bring people of
all ages together and to help with the
community's healing process.

All profits go to the United Way
who will be supporting those devastated
by the shootings.

loss after an afternoon fire.

Crews were called out to this
home in the 25-hundred block of Curve
Road around three o'clock today.

When firefighters arrived on the
scene they saw smoke.

One they entered the home they
found fire coming through the floor.

The incident commander says the
fire appeared to be coming from
underneath, where electrical wiring was
housed.

In addition to fire damage, the
home sustained extensive smoke and
water damage.

No one was home at the time of
the incident.

accredited.

News 7 has learned the nursing
program actually lost its accreditation
in August of 2006.

They hope to have an answer in

But there were two areas of
concern: the need for more faculty with
a Master's degree in Nursing and the

The dean says this is not a
reflection on the program but believes
they did fail to provide adequate
documentation on the program's success.

the Republican presidential nomination
today.

He says he's the only true
conservative running for the Republican

Tonight there's word that West
Virginia and former head basketball
coach John Beilein have come to an
agreement on what it will cost to buy
out his contract.

VO-NAT Beilein will pay the university

one-and-a-half million dollars for
leaving for Michigan with five years
remaining on his contract.

WVU announced the deal tonight
saying in effect that Beilein got a
bargain because the buyout is $1
million less than his contract called
for.

Under the agreement, Beilein -
who is now at Michigan - will pay the
money over the next five years to the
West Virginia University Foundation.

The annual college football
contest almost died when Victory
Stadium was demolished.

before December.

But the playing surface is all
prepped and ready for the installation
on field turf next week - and City is
anxious to welcome Virginia State and
Livingstone to town on Saturday
September 22nd. The Trojans have a
huge alumni base in the area - and
Jones, himself is an alumnus of
Livingstone.

GRAPHIC=VICK Police in Smithfield today raided

a house owned by Michael Vick. The
raid was part of a drug inviestigation,
but instead the officers found over 60
dogs on the property - some scarred and
malmourished.

Now, it's important to note that
Vick does NOT live on the property and
he was not there with the search
warrant was issued today.

However, PETA and the Humane
Society of the US are calling for
disciplinary action to be taken against
Vick.

Michael is scheduled to join
Bruce Smith, Deangello Hall and Frank
Beamer in New York Saturday for a
pre-draft tribute to honor the victims
of last week's shootings.
