that finally arrived.

This morning before the sun came
up a bus arrived at the Naval and
Marine Corps Reserve Center in Roanoke.

Sixteen marine reservists made it
back to the area after serving five
months in Iraq.

The detachment left in November
and some were on their second and third
tour.

They were not required to go but
all volunteered.

As part of their active duty,
they were combat engineers and had to
use explosive devices.

say it bears repeating.

Students, faculty, staff and

up together.

Starting this fall - VCU's
homeland security and emergency
preparedness program will be offered at
the institute.

Virginia Commonweath will hire
faculty members in Martinsville to
manage and to teach the program.

The Richmond-based school was the
first major research institution in the
nation to establish a degree program in
homeland security and emergency
preparedness.

Firefighters in Ware County,
Georgia battled a raging wildfire
Saturday that's already consumed nearly
66-thousand acres.

which is the largest wildfire in the
state's history.

Residents living in nearby
communities were evacuated yesterday.

the Phoenix area Saturday.

The National Weather Service
warned drivers of low to zero
visibility as the major storm passed

Thunderstorms that began along

Holly, Colorado has been
rebuilding ever since a tornado struck

Eastern Shore students were shot and a
third was stabbed Friday.

Officers responded to the Talon
Square North apartments for reports of
a shooting.

When they arrived they found a
20-year-old lying in the doorway of the
apartment.

He was taken to a local hospital
where police found two other men being
treated- one from the same apartment
ALSO with a gunshot wound.

The second man- from a nearby
apartment complex- had been stabbed.

Police say the incidents are
related.

a hiker who tumbled at least 50-feet
into a ravine.

It happened late yesterday
afternoon on a trail at the Columbia
River Gorge on the Oregon-Washington
state line.

According to an Oregon newspaper-
a helicopter was being brought in to
rescue the 50-year-old man who had
injured his pelvis and was having
trouble breathing.

The trail, rated medium in
difficulty and rising on a slight
grade, is frequently traveled.

This morning before the sun came
up a bus arrived at the Naval and
Marine Corps Reserve Center in Roanoke.

Sixteen marine reservists made it
back to the area after serving five
months in Iraq.

The detachment left in November
and some were on their second and third
tour.

They were not required to go but
all volunteered.

As part of their active duty,
they were combat engineers and had to
use explosive devices.
