tragedy, and a local church has decided
to do something about it.

series dealing with these very

The pastor realizes his
congregation and people all over the
Valley have been asking a lot of
questions since the shootings at
Virginia Tech so he's decided to deal
with the issue head on.

student's book bag this morning at
William Ruffner Middle School.

A school system spokesperson says
that there were never any threats to
students and no evacuations.

A 12-year-old seventh grade boy
has been arrested.

His name has not been released
because he is juvenile.

He's been charged with possession
of a firearm on school property and
brandishing a firearm.

Police do not indicate exactly
how the gun was "brandished", nor did
they provide further details on what
type of the gun it was.

after being charged with D-U-I and
hit-and-run for an off-duty accident
last month.

State police say Danny Leigh
Cassidy, Junior was going about 70
miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour
zone when he crashed his car on
Franklin Turnpike April 20th.

Cassidy also allegedly left the
scene of the accident.

He'd been employed with the
Danville Police Department for nine
years.

Blacksburg Planning Commission from
taking a key vote last night.

The town is considering an
ordinance that would force developers
to get a special use permit if they
want to build a big box store.

Ohio developer announced he was putting
a 175-thousand square foot store on
this land along South Main Street.

The date of last night's public
hearing was advertised wrong so, by law
the Planning Commission could not take
a vote.

Town council is supposed to vote

It's hard to say how the delay
will effect council's decision.

works to shore up its finances, some
are concerned the school's valuable art
collection may soon be on the auction
block.

Center will no longer take emergency
calls at Carilion.

The group is changing the
hospital where it will provide on-call
care to Lewis-Gale Medical Center.

Despite the switch, Vistar says
any patient can still receive emergency
eye services through the group by
calling Vistar directly.

As far as the reason for change,
Vistar says it had hopes of becoming
part of the Carilion Clinic.

But when negotations were
unsuccessul, the group decided it was
time for a change.

Vistar is the largest group in
the region for performing eye surgery.

The group plans to hold a press
conference Friday to discuss more of

preventing the company from performing
certain services outside of Virginia.

Some are concerned about the impact

may have a downside.

VO-NAT A new study says a high intake of

the two may hurt your brain as you age.

In recent years, high calcium and
Vitamin D have been promoted as a way
to prevent bone loss.

Now, researchers have found they
caused larger brain lesions in
seniors...the kind that can lead to
depression or even a stroke.

The team scanned 232 elderly men
and women's brains...while all subjects
displayed some lesions....there was a
higher volume in those who consumed
high amounts of calcium and vitamin D.
