THE GOAL AT THIS HIGH-POWERED MEETING:
FINDING COMMON GROUND.

PRESIDENT BUSH INVITED LEADING
LAWMAKERS FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE

THE WHITE HOUSE... HOPING TO CHART A
COURSE TOWARDS PASSING A WAR

SPENDING BILL THAT EVERYONE CAN AGREE
ON.

THE MEETING COMES ONE DAY AFTER THE
PRESIDENT VETOED THE "FIRST"

DOLLARS TO THE WARS IN IRAQ AND

AFGHANISTAN... AND TIED THAT MONEY, TO
A TIMELINE FOR PULLING U-S TROOPS

OUT OF IRAQ.

(STANDUP BRIDGE: Susan Roberts / CBS

(SOT: Rep. David Obey / D - WISCONSIN)

- "now that the president has

laid his veto on the table, it seems to
me that he has an obligation to

lay on the table what compromises he's
