EVENT=EDUCATION 7 BANNER the Roanoke County school system.
During this time last year, it was in
turmoil.
ENG#=1 VO-NAT
VO-NAT Superintendent Linda Weber decided to
temporarily step aside after calls for
her resignation in the Cave Spring
community.
Eventually, Weber decided to retire,
rather than return for the final year
of her contract.
Lorraine Lange then took over as
superintendent and one of the first
things she did was hold a series of
community meetings.

OQ=amount of time Another challenge is the
student/teacher ratio.
To address it, the school system
plans to hire more teachers next year,
although how many is still unclear.
A big issue is the need for upgraded

Last Week Events hosted by Governor Tim
Kaine, including the concert in Capitol
Square cost 750- thousand dollars....
That includes the stage, jumbo-

organizers.
At the request of Secret Service,
state employees were given the day
off.... something that could cost the
state an estimated 11- million
dollars.... but tourism officials say
it's worth it.
They estimate media coverage of
the event is worth millions in
advertising for this weekend's 400th
