looking a lot more state of the art,
once it undergoes a major renovation.

will totally renovate Northside from
top to bottom.
The project will cost 24 million
dollars and as you can see in these

is creating some major buzz in
Blacksburg.

Fairmount Properties submitted
the final site plans for "Boulevards of
Blacksburg" late last week.
The Ohio developer wants to build
a major shopping center along South
Main Street near the Kroger.
The plans include a 175-thousand
foot building, which many believe will
be a Wal-Mart.
The new site plan includes a
drawing that appears very similar to
many existing Walmart stores, but no
store is named in the plan.

approved a 4.9 percent increase for
in-state cadets.
They'll pay 16-thousand-156
dollars.
Out of State cadets will

Prudential Video was honored with a Prudential Spirit of
Community Award.
The 6th-grader at
Blacksburg Elementary School personally
crocheted more than 500 baby hat an
bootie sets, 40 blankets and dozens of
toddler hats over the past two years.
She gave them to local
charities for distribution to expectant
mothers.
Jessica was honored Sunday
in Washington- DC, and even got to meet
Payton Manning.

near the campus of Randolph-Macon
Woman's College in Lynchburg.
It happened at around 12:30 this
morning on River Run Avenue.
Dispatchers say two male suspects
approached the women with a weapon and
demanded money.
Police were later able to
apprehend the suspects.
No further information is
available at this time.

man accused of robbing and killing
another man last summer.

shot to death inside his Early Street
home last June, while his fiance, their
3-week-old daughter and 8-year-old son
looked on.
29-year-old Carson Alfred
Washington and two other men were later
arrested for the crime ... prosecutors
believe Washington was the gunman.
He entered Alford pleas to 12
charges yesterday, including capital
murder ... not admitting guilt, but
acknowledging there was enough evidence
to convict him.

gunman who killed 32 students and
teachers at Virginia Tech three weeks
ago, WAS ordered to seek mental health
treatment.
The Washington Post summed up the
findings in an article, which ran
yesterday.
The Post reports a special judge
ordered Seung Hi Cho into involuntary
outpatient treatment, after concluding
that he not only posed a threat to
himself, but others.
Cho however never fulfilled the
judges orders.
And the paper points out, neither
mental health officials nor the court
checked to make sure he received
treatment.

Virginia Tech has been modified to
honor the victims of last month's
shootings.
While the victims will be honored,
there are no plans to mention the
gunman.
Meanwhile, folks in Blacksburg are
gobbling up those Hokies United Tee
shirts.

The first licensed shirts from
the tragedy went on sale on Saturday
and sold out in less than two hours.
20-Thousand more shirts arrived
in stores yesterday and are already
almost gone.
The shirts are five dollars and

Memorial Fund.
Another shipment arrives to
stores tomorrow.
25-thousand orders have also been
placed over the internet.
