Two people are dead and a third
injured after a shooting this morning
in Pittsylvania County.
Police responded shortly after
three o'clock to reports of a shooting
in the parking lot of Virginia Carolia
homes on South Boston Road.
There they found two victims dead
at the scene. The third was taken to
the hospital and is listed in stable
condition.
No names are being released at
this time and the case is under
investigation.

As we first reported last week,
the Star was originally going to be
white for 32 says in honor of the
Virginia Tech victims. Now the city
says it's indefinite.
Some on council are open to
keeping it white because they say
there's no telling when the war will
end.
You may remember the Star became
red, white, and blue shortly after 9-11
and council has said over and over it
will remain that way as long as we are
at war.
People we talked to say a promise
made should be a promise kept.

Last Week The governor's order clarifies
patients ordered to get both in and
out- patient treatment should be added
to the state's background check
database.
Forms used by State Police, court
clerks and mental health professionals
need to be changed to include a box for
"out- patient" treatment... but the
updated forms won't be complete until
later this week.
With or without updated papers-
courts should already be submitting
patient's names to the state database.

at Lynchburg's city council meeting
last night... as developers and
retailers like Wal-Mart call a proposed
restriction unfair.
The city wants any potential big
box store to get a conditional use
permit before they can build.

The city sees it as just another
tool it can use to make sure these
projects are done without any negative
impact to local traffic or the
environment.
But some developers see it as an
attack on Wal-Mart ... which hopes to
locate a new store in this
mostly-vacant shopping center on Old
Forest Road.
The lawyer representing the couple
selling that property says they could
sue if the ordinance goes forward.

people to the hospital last night.

Police say a Chevy Blazer, and
Ford Tempo were both headed north on
Williamson Road, when they collided in
the 200 block.
No details on how the crash
happened.
The driver of the Blazer was not
seriously hurt -- but the driver of the
Tempo had to be cut out of the car. She
was taken to Roanoke Memorial hospital,
along with her passenger.
Police are still investigating.
No charges have been filed.

In Henry County, deputies
confirmed that a woman walked into a
shoe store on Commonwealth Boulevard.
She claimed that her child was
killed on the Blacksburg campus three
weeks ago, and asked for money to help
pay for various expenses.
Investigators aren't sure if this
is an isolated incident, or if she's
hopping from community to community.
No word on how much money she's
collected so far.

A judge did not rule yesterday on
a motion to dismiss a six point three
million dollar lawsuit against the
former Hokie.

a 17-year-old Christiansburg girl.
She claims she had a sexual
relationship with Vick for nearly two
years while he was at Virginia Tech.
Vick's attorneys want the case
thrown out, but the judge asked them
for more information.
He's not expected to rule for at
least another month on whether the
lawsuit will move forward.
