one person who was gunned down in a
Pittsylvania County parking lot
yesterday morning.

Authorities say 23-year-old Zachary
R. Titus of Danville died after being
shot to death in the lot of
Virginia-Carolina Homes on Route 58
East near Ringgold.

Police haven't positively
identified the second victim ... the
name of a third person, who survived
the shooting, is not being released out
of concerns for their safety.

Police are looking for a teal
green car that was spotted leaving the
scene.

investigating a murder in Amherst
County.

Around 7 yesterday morning, a hunter
found the body of a man in the National
Forest off Route 130.

Police believe the victim,
identified as 54-year-old Michael Kent
Jamerson of Madison Heights, was shot
and killed within the past 24 hours.

An autopsy is pending.

days, school is open today at William
Fleming High School in Roanoke.

William Ruffner Middle School was
also searched as a precaution.

School leaders say yesterday's
threat came over the phone... less than
24 hours after someone found the word

Bomb and the date 5-eleven.. which is
tomorrow-- on a bathroom stall at
Fleming.

A letter did go home to parents
alerting them of what's going on- and
the school also used its Rapid parent
notification system.

back-up in part of the building.

described as "messy and unpleasant"
would have complicated the school's
ability to serve lunch.

Students were dismissed at
10:A-M, and workers were called in to
clean up.

Jamestown....

There archaeologists have
recently discovered what they believe
is the settlement's first well- filled
with artifacts.

They've also outlined the fort
with log- walls and constructed a
typical 1607 building to give visitors
a better idea of what life was like
400- years ago.

eight- member panel that'll probe last
month's shooting at Virginia Tech.

The panel is under pressure to
issue at least preliminary findings on
the shooting within three months.

Tech is also preparing to honor
its newest graduates with commencement

ceremonies this weekend.

Then on Monday, all university
offices will be closed.

President Charles Steger says the
one-day closing is to recognize the
many contributions of the Tech
community, and to express appreciation
for the extraordinary and heroic
efforts in response to the April 16
campus tragedy.

statue.

It appears the suspects may be
students from a rival university.
