accident abruptly ended the life of

attempt in a local WalMart parking lot.

Roanoke police say it
happened outside the Valley View store
yesterday morning just before 9:00.

A man threatened the woman
and tried to force her into her car.

The woman hit the panic
button on her car, setting off the

alarm.

The suspect took off and was
tracked down later in the day. Charges
are pending.

CHIP's Tug for Tots Virginia Tech head football coach :00 Frank Beamer stopped by the Noontime
event at the River's Edge complex to
help CHIP kick off its second decade of
fundraising.

Since this event began 11 years
ago CHIP has raised $225 thousand bucks
to provide health care to children in
poverty.

17 area companies kicked in a
thousand dollars a piece today to take
part in a tug of war and addd to that
total.

The Roanoke City Sheriff's
department won the lightweight
diviison, while Apco won the
heavyweight class championship and

coach only had to deal with a couple of
problems.
