huge wind- driven wildfire has forced
hundreds to flee California's Santa
Catalina Island.

Authoritis say several homes have now
burned.

The blaze broke out yesterday
afternoon, and by early this morning
had grown to more than four thousand
acres.

The island is a major tourist

mainland.

controversial Blacksburg shopping
center are now suing the town.

The developers say they
followed all the rules and already have
a vested right to build the shopping
center which would include a so-called

Ordinance 1450 would
require a special use permit before a
"big box" store could be built.

Most of the flags will be

two separate robberies this morning.

The first one happened at 10:30
last night on Southland Drive, a woman
and her son arrived home when two black
males produced a hand gun and took off
with her purse.

The second robbery occurred at
1:40 this morning on Rocklawn Avenue.
Two black males entered the home from
the back door and produced a hand gun.

They walked away with an
undisclosed amount of cash.

Police say that the robberies are
not-related.

made an arrest following a bomb scare
yesterday at Narrows High School.

School officials say a threat was
found written on a wall just before
noon. The school was evacuated, and
students were sent home early.

A search turned up nothing
suspicious, and investigators
determined the threat was a hoax. A
juvenile has been charged.

A bus carrying ten students from
Axton Elementary School was shot at
yesterday.

The bus was stopped on Robin Road
in the Piedmont Estates area of Henry
County.

Authorities say a student was
exiting the bus when a passenger side
window was hit.

It turned out the weapon was an
air gun.

An 11-year-old and a 12-year-old
have each been charged with shooting
into an occupied vehicle, which is a
felony.

They were also charged with a
misdemeanor count of damaging property.

No one was injured in this

incident.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office
is still investigating.

huge wind- driven wildfire has forced
hundreds to flee California's Santa
Catalina Island.

Authoritis say several homes have now
burned.

The blaze broke out yesterday
afternoon, and by early this morning
had grown to more than four thousand
acres.

The island is a major tourist
destination off the coast of Southern
California.

Authorities urged people to evacuated

the town of Avalon, and many residents
and visitors boarded ferries to the
mainland.

Pictures of the flames weren't likey
the vacation photos these tourists had
envisioned.
