leadership once Falwell was gone.

stressed that today's service was not a

the liberty university community to

U.S. Supreme Court, but Falwell's
defamation lawsuit would ultimately
fail.
Three years later he took the plunge at
Heritage USA, and took over the
scandal-ridden PTL ministry from Jim
and Tammy Bakker.
In recent years, controversial comments
kept him in the spotlight. Some like a
1999 statement that the Antichrist is a
Jew, brought apologies...

groundwork for a growing local
presence.
The small bible college that started
with 154 students in the fall of 1971,
grew into a university claiming more
than 17- thousand.
Liberty University and its thousands of
graduates, Falwell predicted, would be

Falwell had his share of health
problems in the past two years.

He even came close to dying twice in
2005. First, a twelve day bout with
pneumonia, then congestive heart
failure. He actually lost
consciousness for several minutes after
going into respiratory arrest.
Later that year doctors did find a
70-percent blockage in an artery and
stents were put in to open it up.
After his brush with death, Falwell
did make several lifestyle changes. He
cut his work schedule in half, began
eating more healthy, and walking more.
But despite his efforts, his doctors
believe he passed away today from
sudden cardiac death.

Corporation Commission has slashed
APCO's rate hike from more than
25-percent to just over three percent.
That's 174-million less
than what the utility wanted.

25.4 percent increase about this time
last year.
The S-C-C allowed the
increase to go into effect with the
understanding that if the approved
amount was lower, customers would get
refunds with interest.
The company now has
ninety days to get that money back to
its customers and thirty days to begin
charging the lower rate.

hearing for June 7th.
Fairmount Properties of Ohio is
suing the town to protect its right to
build a big box store, like a Walmart,
on South Main Street.
The suit is in responce to a new
ordinance the town is considering that
could stop the project.

switch the Mill Mountain star back to
red, white, and blue is over.

switch from white, back to the old
colors on May 24th.
The lights were made white to
honor the 32 victims lost during the
shootings at Virginia Tech.
It was made red, white and blue

inspection last weekend at Darlington.

points and his owner Teresa Earnhardt
was docked 100 owner's points after
NASCAR found that the mounts that hold
the rear wing on the Car of Tomorrow
were illiegal.
Crew chief Tony Eury, Junior was
fined $100,000 as well and suspended
for six weeks by NASCAR.
Eury says it was an honest
mistake and the Earnhardt team says it
will appeal.
