his death a significant loss.

In the spring 1977 Falwell played
a pivotal role in recruiting Billy
Belcher to play football - even though
the football stadium at the time was
non-existent.
As a matter of fact, Belcher says
the entire campus pretty much consisted
of a sea of red mud and a classroom
building.
But it was Falwell's confidence
and strong christian faith in the
future of his institution that
convinced Belcher to jump on board.

A decision has been made about
whether to switch the Mill Mountain
star back to red, white, and blue.

VO-NAT Yesterday, City Council said the
star will be switched from white, back
to the old colors on May 24th.
The lights were made white to
honor the 32 victims lost during the
shootings at Virginia Tech.
It was made red, white and blue
shortly after September 11th.

GRAPHIC=NONE After recent rate hikes, many
APCO customers have been hoping for a
refund.
Now the SCC has ruled that
they're going to get it.
The State Corporation
Commission has slashed the rate hike
from more than 25-percent to just over
three percent.
That's 174-million less
than what the utility wanted.

VO-NAT APCO made the request for a
25.4 percent increase about this time
last year.
The S-C-C allowed the
increase to go into effect with the
understanding that if the approved
amount was lower, customers would get
refunds with interest.
The company now has
ninety days to credit that money back
to customers bills and thirty days to
begin charging the lower rate.

graduates... but a new addition was
made last night among the ranks of
"Brother Rats."

joined the list of V-M-I alumni.
Melissa Ward graduated in 2003.
She's now a First Lieutenant in the
Marine Corps.
She came back to pin rank
insignia on her sister, Abby's
shoulders yesterday.

consider Melissa is stationed in
Afghanistan.

hit close to home.
21- year- old Private First Class
Christopher Edward Murphy of Campbell
County was killed in an attack last
weekend outside of Baghdad.

of William Campbell High School.

championship football team in 2002, and
a starter during the 2003 season.
Yesterday, his former coach and a

evidence to look at in the murder of an
Amherst County man--
A pistol was found near the body.

Michael Kent Jamerson of Woodvue
Drive was found shot to death last
Tuesday on Route 130 in the Snowden
area of Amherst County.
This picture is older -- at the
time of his death, Jamerson was heavier
set, with longer hair and a beard.
