launched an investigation into what
police say appears to be a suicide of
an inmate.

Around midnight Saturday,
deputies discovered James Ernest

Alexander had suffocated himself to
death inside the Roanoke County - Salem
Jail.

They say the 68-year-old took a
blanket, tied it around a light fixture
on the wall of the cell and tied the
other end to his neck.

Alexander had been arrested
earlier in the evening and charged with
D-U-I for an encounter at the Farmers
Market on East Main Street in Salem.

He was taken to Lewis Gale -
where he was pronounced dead around one
A-M.

of a small Toyota tried to make a left

onto 10th and collided with an S-U-V.

The passenger in the Toyota,
51-year-old James Harrison died.

Roanoke Memorial for their injuries.

tough enough. Winning back to back
titles at the Roanoke Country Club is a
feat that isn't accomplished very
often. The likes of Paula Creamer and
Kevin Na who play on the L-P-G-A and
P-G-A tours respectively are among the
few who turned the trick.

24th Scott Robertson Memorial After two rounds this weekend
Isabelle Lendl has a chance to join
that group. She fired a 69 in the
second round that included the nifty
bunker save on 18. She is at 3 under
par and leads by 2 over three other
golfers.

That group includes Esther
Choe, the Top Ranked junior girl in the
country. Choe could have trimmed her
deficit to a single shot if not for the
lip service on 18.

On the Boy's 15 to 18 side of
things there are just 2 players under
par. John Popeck shot a second round
68 and is in second place all alone.

The player he is chasing is John

Hahn who shot a 5 under round of 66 to
get to 6 under for the tournament. He
carries a 4 stroke lead into the final
round.

One set of rankings that helps
the Robertson with their selection

on the best Junior Tournaments in the

end today in Georgia. The Hokies were
four over today, missing the cut to
advance by four shots. Jay Hardwick's
team finished 12th in the East
Regional, 24 over par. The top 10
teams advanced to the NCAA finals in
Williamsburg in two weeks.

Ohio State today 2-1 in the NCAA
regionals. Angela Tincher gave up 5
hits, while striking out 9. Only one
of the Buckeyes two runs was earned.

Tech will now have to come back thru
the loser's bracket, beginning tonight
against Cal State Fullerton.

NCAA Baseball Tournament. This
afternoon the Panthers beat York
College of Pennsylvania 17 to 9. And
as we speak, Abe Naff's team is trying
to prolong its season against Emory,
out of Atlanta, a team that has yet to
lose in the regional. the game is tied
at 3-all in the 5th. We'll have some
highlights at 11.
