Roanoke blocked both lanes of
Williamson Road last night.

Police say an S-U-V headed north
on 10th street collided with a car
turning off of Williamson.

The driver of the S-U-V, the
driver of the car, and a passenger were
all taken to Roanoke Memorial.

No word on how serious their
injuries are.

Virginia was killed in Iraq ---

Private first Class Aaron Gautier
of Hampton died Thursday in Baghdad.
His mounted patrol came in contact with
enemy forces who were using small arms
fire and an improvised explosive
device.

He was based out of Fort Lewis,
Washington.

now attend school right here in
Roanoke.

There were celebrations this week
along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where
the two-mile long Bay St. Louis Bridge
re-opened.

Hurricane Katrina destroyed the
original bridge.

Before the storm took out
portions of the span - more than twenty
months ago, around 20-thousand cars a
day crossed over the bridge.

During the reconstruction,
drivers had to endure much longer
commutes.

The cost of the new bridge is
expected to exceed 267-million dollars.

And staying along the U-S Gulf
Coast...

Six parishes along the Louisiana
coast joined forces to create a plan
that would help communities get back on
their feet quicker if hit by another
powerful hurricane.

Leaders spent the day yesterday
designing a re-entry procedure.

Emergency workers would have
unlimited access to disaster areas.

Officials say they are confident
the new system will work smoothly in
the event of another disaster.

campaign against Palestinian targets.

were demolished. The airstrikes are in

Gaza Strip.

And one Israeli town near the border is
mostly deserted.

Israeli military officials say at this
point they are not planning a ground

arrived in Iraq today for his final
visit to the country as prime minister.

touched down three mortor rounds
exploded in Baghdad's green zone.
According to a security official one
struck the British Embassy compound. It
is not known if Blair was at the

the Iraqi government to speed up
efforts to reconcile divided

Some students on their way
to Hidden Valley High School got a
scare yesterday morning when their bus
was hit by a car.

Police say a car ran a red
light at the intersection of Apperson
and 419 and hit Roanoke County Bus 15.

The bus then hit a sign and a
van.

One child was taken to
Lewis Gale Medical Center.

One person from one of the other
vehicles was also taken to Lewis Gale.

Their injuries were described as
minor.

Police say charges are
pending.
