resort to military like procedures in
order to make an arrest yesterday
afternoon.

The officers fired fumes and a
tear gas grenade into a house on Felts
Lane in order to force a suspect to
surrender.

The suspect - Steven Sutliff -
was wanted for threatening to shoot and
kill his girlfriend and her children -
then hours later, violating a
restraining order.

Mudslides caused by two days of
heavy rains in the coffee country of
western Colombia killed one person and
injured two others.

One man was buried when the
mudslides hit a neighborhood where he
was working.

The two other workers were
rescued and taken to a hospital.

Efforts continue to rescue three
more people trapped in a powder mine
after a mudslide blocked the entrance.

A tornado nearly wiped the small
town of Greensburg, Kansas off the map
May 5th.

That was just two weeks before
seniors at Greensburg High School were

set to graduate.

But... the graduation ceremony
for the 25 seniors was held yesterday
on a local golf course.

The May 5th tornado measured one
mile wide and packed winds of 165 mph.

Greensburg High School was
destroyed.

At least seven members of
Lebanon's security force have been
killed in a battle with Islamic

spread to an area outside a Palestinian
refugee camp guarded by Lebanese
soldiers.

Lebanon says its army is using

inmate.

deputies discovered James Ernest
Alexander dead inside his cell at the
Roanoke County - Salem Jail.

They say the 68-year-old hanged
himself.

Alexander had been arrested
Friday evening and charged with D-U-I.

He was taken to Lewis Gale -
where he was pronounced dead.

intersection of 10th Street and
Williamson when police say the driver
of a small Toyota tried to make a left
onto 10th and collided with an S-U-V.

The passenger in the Toyota,
51-year-old James Harrison, died.

The driver of the car, as well as
the driver of the S-U-V were taken to
Roanoke Memorial.

But, students at Lucy Addison
Middle School are working to change
that by raising money for the new civil
rights memorial.

When opened - the shrine will
showcase Barbara Johns, the young
Farmville woman who led Moton High
School students on a strike to protest
their separate but *unequal* school.

The students at Addison got
turned on to the memorial after
learning about it in class.

They've raised close to
360-dollars which they plan to donate
to the project.

"Paws for Celebration" is an
annual fundraiser put on by the League
of Animal Protection.

The group works to find homes for
abandoned dogs - currently the shelter
is housing 19 of them.

Along with food, music and

crafts, yesterday's fundraiser also
involved a walk-a-thon for pets and
their owners.
