Roanoke County receive calls weekly
from the community about this.

And While patrolling Tanglewood
Mall, an officer found this dog left
unattended.

Even though it was in the mid
70's, the windows were cracked and
there was some shade, the inside of the
car reached over 100 degrees.

The owner returned before the dog
went into distress and he was not
cited.

But if a pet suffers ill effects,
an owner can face jail time and fines.

Mosaic Yarn Shop in Blacksburg
has started a program called Hokie
Healing.

People are asked to knit eight-
by- eight- inch squares that will be
combined to make blankets for the
families of those killed...

This shop in Richmond is
collecting squares of all types and
textures... most are Hokie maroon and

orange, but others include black and
white to represent mourning and hope.

basketball team has named its new head
coach and it's a familiar name to fans
of Tech women's basketball.

Fran Recchia gets the job. She
played for the Hokies from 2001-2005
having a chance to compete in both the
Big East and the ACC.

She will teach health and phys ed
at Byrd, as well. Recchia has both a
Bachelors and Masters degree. During
her time at Tech she was named to the
ACC Academic Honor Roll, was a Big East
Academic All Star, and was part of the
Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

running of the Indianapolis 500.

And for the first time in those
91 years - three women will be in the

The most well known is Danica
Patrick - who burst onto the Indy scene
in 2005 when she became the first woman
to lead the 500. She finished fourth
in her rookie year and is now no longer
content just to race - she wants to

Sarah Fisher is 26 years old - a
racing veteran who is getting married
in September. She is back at the
Brickyard after failing to make the
race each of the past two years.

And then there's newcomer, Milka
Duno. The Caracas, Venezuela native is
a 35 year old rookie. Her experience
is mainly in sports cars and her only
other Indy car race was last month at
Kansas City. But she's also a Naval
engineer with four masters degrees.

six-day ride that ended in Roanoke this
afternoon.

from across the country peddled six
hundred miles to honor the ones who
lost their lives trying to save others.

The bikers began their trip in
New York last week. They left Staunton
Virginia early this morning and

family.

The group has a Memorial Service
planned for Saturday night at First
Baptist Church in Roanoke.
