Cassell pleaded guilty in federal court
yesterday..

The 69-year old lawman will
likely serve jail time after admitting
that he lied to the F-B-I.

investigating the Henry County
Sheriff's department for a while.

When one of them asked Cassell
whether he knew that some of his
deputies were selling drugs, the
Sheriff denied any knowledge of that.

Surveillance tapes indicated he
was aware of it.

department in Smyth County as well.

VO-NAT Three officers have been removed


and arrested in the last three weeks,

bringing Chilhowie's police department
down to three members.

The latest firing and arrest is
James E. Runyon.

He's accused of selling drugs.

Yesterday we told you about the
former Police Chief and Sergeant.

Dwayne Sheffield is accused of
Rape and several other sex crimes.

Brian Doss is facing several
charges including forcible sodomy and
sexual battery

State Police say the pair
sexually assaulted a 17 year old girl
in a haunted house fundraiser last
October.

Runyon is out of jail on bond,
awaiting trial.

Sheffield and Doss are being held
without bond at the Southwest Virginia
Regional Jail in Abingdon.

They have bond hearings today.

Historic Sites in Virginia...

over-- now a Roanoke police officer is
back at work after a fatal shooting.

administrative leave while a routine
investigation was underway.

shot 43 year-old John Harvey Bridges.

Bridges' roommate Ron Ragland
says he called police because his
friend was suicidal.

Police say when they arrived,

Bridges grabbed a sword and came toward
them in a threatening manner.

Ragland told us police never gave
him a chance to drop the weapon, and
the sword never came out of its cover.

suspect may still face charges in
Blacksburg.

Maintenance workers at the
Village Apartments in Blacksburg found
what appeared to be a bomb in an
apartment yesterday morning.


Police say they found a device
similar to a suicide bomber's vest that
held six canisters and a circuit board.

The building was evacuated for
most of the day and the device was
eventually detonated.

Police believe it was a hoax,
however possession of even a phony
explosive device is a class six felony
in Virginia.
