night early as Jimmie Johnson loses the
tread off a left rear tire on Lap 53.

That causes TROUBLE for several
cars... piling up and bending some
sheet metal.

Points leader Jeff Gordon called
it a day on Lap 63.

Tony Raines gets loose collecting
Gordon who hits the wall and gets
lifted into the air by A.J.
Allmendinger.

With gas prices on the rise,
Casey Mears conserved just enough to
get to the Finish Line and win his
first ever Nextel Cup Race.

His Crew Chief is Darien Grubb,
who's from Floyd County and a Virginia
Tech Grad.

Here is a look at how they
finished.

OQ=News 7 Sports." < (END SOT) the Martinsville Speedway on race

weekend. And while there isn't a bad
seat in the house, perhaps the best
one, is still under construction.

Since the Goody's Cool Orange 500 in
April, dirt has been moved along the
backstretch towards turn 3 to make room
for what will be known as the Champions
Overlook, which will include 30 new
paved RV sites. At a cost of around 2
thousand bucks per race, the sites will
be named for former winners at the
track, and the view will be unmatched.

CLAY CAMPBELL/MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY
PRESIDENT:

The speedway is one of southside's
biggest marketing tools and earlier
this week, it was recognized by the
Martinsville--Henry County Economical
Development Corportation with a Legacy
Award for its 60 years of impacting the
area's economy.
