The sheriff says the man- who was
shot in the hand and the leg- is
recovering from surgery.
He's expected to be okay.
But today we learned the suspect,
Kenneth Howard, was also a camper who
had set up just 20-yards away from the
victims.
It's news that unnerving to a lot
of hikers coming through the area.

lives, but some good news. Two of the
victims who survived appear to be
improving.
The driver, Bessy Martinez of
Georgia, was released from Roanoke
Memorial earlier today.

listed in good condition.

real life Monday morning when a family
of nine traveling on I-81 swerved to
miss a deer. Several of the people
were thrown from the SUV and died at
the scene. Police say things might
have been different if everyone was

helping free a woman who was trapped in
her car.

The vehicle rolled over and into
a tree.
The driver and a male passenger
were able to get out with only cuts and
bruises but fire fighters say a female
passenger had to be cut from the car.

The crash is under investigation
but officials say it appears speed was

plea of guilty to two counts of murder,
the Commonwealth agreed to ask for no
more than 34 years.

Goode's attorney also pleaded with
the judge, pointing out the defendant

sentences.
Karrington Overstreet pled guilty
and was sentenced to eight years behind

Blacksburg tonight about those big box
stores like Walmart and Target.

new ordinance called 14-50 that would
cap the size of retail buildings to
80-thousand square feet.
Under the ordinance, anything
larger would need special permission
from the town.
Blacksburg is already facing a

Main Street.

slowdown in Virginia's economy becomes
a crash dive, the state shouldn't see
any drastic budget cuts.
It looks like tax collections will fall
about 300-thousand dollars short of
expectations this year, but speaking on
a radio show today, Kaine said it's not
a massive shortfall. The current budget
totals about 36-billion dollars.

how Bedford County authorities handle a
large-scale emergency with dozens of
casualties.

at the Memorial had injured a great

student brought a suspicious article to
school this morning.
Police called the article "an inert
military-type grenade"
Police say there was never any

a jet ski on Sunday in Lake
Pontchartrain in New Orleans.

Yesterday coroner, Dr. Frank Minyard, says an
autopsy showed no signs of drug or
alcohol in Hill's body.
Minyard says Hill might have
suffered a mild concussion when he fell
off jet ski. Authorities say that Hill
was not wearing life vest which could
have saved his life.

(END SOT) made it to the Regionals this season
for the first time ever. A big part of
their success was the play of the
Rotanz sisters. Ryan and Katie.
Katie a Senior is headed to
Virginia Tech next season to play for
the Hokies well her younger sister Ryan
is being recruited by a number of top
schools to come play Lacrosse for them
after she completes High School.

(STANDUP: That the Rotanz sisters are
talented at Lacrosse shouldn't be a
real suprise. There Father Bob played
at Roanoke College where he helped lead
the maroons to the National Title in
1978. He was inducted into the Roanoke
College Hall of Fame in 1988 but it
took Dad a little while to catch on to
the girls game.
