wanted gunman remains at large, and
they're still urging residents to keep
their doors locked.
It follows two stolen cars and two
random shootings - believed to be the
work of one gunman considered armed,
dangerous, and still on the loose.

It all happened yesterday in the
Arnold's Valley area of Rockbridge
County, just south of Natural Bridge
Station in the southeastern end of the
county.
As Steve Smallshaw reports, the
incidents happened within the span of a
few miles - and a few hours.

Ayers was awakened by a loud boom and
the sound of shattering glass.
Someone had fired a single shot at
his home on Arnold's Valley Road.

cabinet and buried itself in another
wall ... Ayers and his family were
shaken up but unhurt.
Three hours later and just a few
miles away, a couple was camping on the
Belfast Trail in the Jefferson National
Forest, when someone approached their
tent and started shooting.

and hand ... he's recovering in a
Roanoke hospital.
Near the campsite shooting, police
recovered this van ... stolen from
Northumberland County, with license
plates that were stolen from a car in
Surry County.
That's when they got a report of a
truck being stolen just down the road.

GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident Seven people were killed in two
separate accidents on area roads over
the holiday weekend.
Four members of a Georgia family
died early yesterday morning on I-81
near Salem.

Yesterday Morning Their G-M-C Suburban was headed
south around 2-30 a.m with nine people
on board.. . when the driver apparently
swerved to avoid a deer, then
over-corrected.
The vehicle left the highway and
flipped over several times, ejecting
many - if not all - of those who had
been inside.
State police identify the dead as
51-year-old Gabriel Castillo,
50-year-old Blanca Castillo, their son,
31-year-old Gamil Castillo, and Javier
Castillo, a boy believed to be under
ten years old.
They are all from Dalton, Georgia.
Two other adults and three
children are under treatment at Roanoke
Memorial Hospital.
Investigators say it appears few,
if any, of the nine people in the
vehicle were wearing seat belts.

A weekend accident in Bedford
County has now claimed three lives.
It happened Sunday off Nemmo
NEE-mo Road oustide Chamblissburg.
Police say 25-year-old Josh
Serreno of Vinton was driving a Mustang
which crossed the center lane, crashing
into a pickup truck.
One of Serreno's passengers,
18-year-old Justin Brooks of Salem,
died at the scene.
Serreno and the truck's
passenger, 68-year-old Jason Higgins,
later died at the hospital.
Police say a 17-year-old girl
from Salem remains hospitalized.

They weren't able to move the

short-time while the truck carrying the

separate accidents on area roads over
the holiday weekend.
Four members of a Georgia family
died early yesterday morning on I-81
near Salem.

Yesterday Morning Their G-M-C Suburban was headed
south around 2-30 a.m with nine people
on board.. . when the driver apparently
swerved to avoid a deer, then
over-corrected.
The vehicle left the highway and
flipped over several times, ejecting
many - if not all - of those who had
been inside.
State police identify the dead as
51-year-old Gabriel Castillo,
50-year-old Blanca Castillo, their son,
31-year-old Gamil Castillo, and Javier
Castillo, a boy believed to be under
ten years old.
They are all from Dalton,
Georgia.
Two other adults and three
children are under treatment at Roanoke
Memorial Hospital.
Investigators say it appears few,
if any, of the nine people in the
vehicle were wearing seat belts.

Police say 25-year-old Josh
Serreno of Vinton was driving a Mustang
which crossed the center lane, crashing
into a pickup truck.
One of Serreno's passengers,
18-year-old Justin Brooks of Salem,
died at the scene.
Serreno and the truck's
passenger, 68-year-old Jason Higgins,
later died at the hospital.
Police say a 17-year-old girl

destroyed the original structure in
1970.
