220 South onto Colonial Avenue, so much

intersection.

according to witnesses.... but the
Henry County Sheriff's office is
investigating a shooting that happened
in the Bassett area this morning.

A 19 year old man suffered a
gunshot wound to the head.

He was flown to Roanoke for

Sheriff's deputies have found the
red pickup truck they believe the

Liberty University student allegedly
caught on campus last week with
home-made bombs in his car.

letting college newspapers advertise
booze.

In Virginia, college newspapers
have been banned from printing ads for
beer, wine or liquor since Prohibition.

But last June Virginia Tech's
Collegiate Times and U-V-A's Cavalier
Daily sued the A-B-C arguing the rule
is unconstitutional.

The paper's argue it violates
their freedom of speech and puts them
at a competitive disadvantage since
non- college papers CAN print ads for
alcohol.

The state argues it's a public
safety issue.

The Atlantic hurricane season
begins tomorrow, and engineers from the
University of Florida have

VO-NAT been hard at work trying to make

homes a little more resistant to the
extreme elements that tropical systems
bring. Conducting test during an actual
hurricane is costly and very dangerous.
So, they have constructed their very
own hurricane simulator. Mounted on a
trailer, the industrial-sized behemoth
is composed of eight, 5-foot-tall
industrial fans powered by four marine
diesel engines.

At full power, the simulator
produces winds over 100mph. Implanted

in the vanes, water jets can simulate
the most extreme rainfall, over 8
inches per hour.

By adding torrential downpours,
the group is able to test the strength
of windows, shingles and wooden
structures.

These windows from the 1970s
didn't quite hold up to the Category 2
strength winds. The goal is to learn
more about exactly how hurricanes
damage homes, and how to modify them to
best prevent that damage.
