Those are some of the questions
workers want answered as they took to
the picket line yesterday morning at
Verizon's Roanoke maintenance center.

The Communications Workers of
America organized the rally.

They're worried that plans to
de-regulate would mean a higher cost

for service and a loss of union jobs.

Verizon Virginia's president
Robert Woltz -- was there to talk about
Verizon's plans to deregulate.

Verizon is the only company of
its kind that's still regulated in
Virginia, which it says puts it at a

thought about as much sunlight as

possible, but this is one of the safest

It turns out the Insurance Institute
for Highway Safety just gave the

maker of Dan Gottliebs car its top
safety rating.

(NAT-) (Video from The Insurance
Institute for Highway Safety)

The group conducted crash tests on 10
midsize convertibles for the first

time.. results out today show the 2007
Saab 9-3 and Volvo C-70 earned

the top safety pick award for offering
good protection in front, side,

and rear crashes.

Three convertibles also earned good
ratings for front and side

collisions.. the Mitsubishi Eclipse,
Volkswagen Eos and Chrysler

Sebring.

They offered more protection than some
pricier models including the BMW

3 series. The Pontiac G-6 ended up at
the bottom of the Institutes list.

Without a roof.. convertible makers are
challenged with keeping heads

and arms safe in case of a rollover..
thats where the roll-bar comes

in...

(Adrian Lund, President Insurance

LUND 17:40:18 what happens in a
rollover and even some of the more

serious crashes where there is just a
frontal the automakers decided to

deploy these rollbars in case you do
roll over it will provide

protection for your head

The two top rated convertibles and the
other European models tested all

feature the pop-up roll-bar.

CLOSE: The President of the Institute
points out that without a roof

convertibles wont do drivers

Without a roof, convertible makers are
