Rockbridge County... came across the
state today east of Richmond.
Sheriff's deputies have found the
truck they believe the suspect stole---
to take off from the scene.
That C-D Campbell Logging Truck was
found in a grocery store parking lot in
West Point-- East of Richmond-

suspect Kevin Howard is from.
Sheriff R-W Day tells News 7 the
truck was found, but there's no sign of

where Howard may have gone.
The manhunt for Howard began after
a shot was fired into this home in
Arnold's Valley, and then a camper was
shot in the Jefferson National Forest.

The patient knew he had a form of the
disease before he left on his
European wedding and honeymoon a few
weeks ago, but later found out he
had a dangerous and deadly strain that
is resistant to drugs. By
then, he had already flown on several
commercial flights. He was
advised not to travel anymore, but he
ignored that advice and returned
to the U-S via Canada.

farmer who wants to rebuild his dog
kennel.
In March, an accidental fire
killed 167 puppies at Philip
Schmucker's home in Byrnes Chapel.
It turns out, the kennel never

Schmucker is now seeking that
special permission.
The county is expecting so many
folks at the 7:00 meeting, it's moved
it to the school board offices in

well-known panda in China--

the first panda to be released into the
wilderness in China after being born in
captivity, was found dead in a forest
in February.
Officials say it appears the five-
year- old panda fell from trees, after
being chased by wild pandas.
No other details were given, and it
wasn't clear why the bear's death was
just reported.
He survived less than a year in the
wild, after nearly three years of
training in survival techniques and
defense tactics.

living harmoniously with an 11- day-
old red- crowned crane at this zoo.
The cubs and crane were all bred in
captivity, and have apparently become
good friends.
When the tiger cubs sleep, the crane
stands guard at their side.
When the cubs wake up, the crane
becomes active.
The feeder at the zoo says the crane
is easy to breed.
As for the tiger cubs, only when they
pass the two- week adaptable period,
can they survive.

four high schools report better
attendance.

are collecting that data as we speak so

these kids for college.

yesterday, then quickly changed his
mind, following a talk with coach Phil
Jackson.
Bryant told a Los Angeles radio
station he didn't want to go anywhere,
saying "this is my team."
Apparently, Kobe had been
unhappy with the way the franchise is
run.

picked up two major all-American honors
yesterday.

This Season She became the first Tech
:00 softball player in the 12- year history
of the progam to earn first- team
all-American honors.
This season she had a 38 and 7
record with an earned run average of
point five six --- the best in the
nation, and she struckout 617 batters.
But she also gets it done in the
classroom.
And yesterday, she was named an
academic all-American.
She is a finance major with a 3-
point- eight- four grade point average.

couple of football commitments
yesterday, including one from the son
of former Redskins' linebacker Kurt
Gouveia.
Jeron Gouveia, a safety from
Great Bridge ,verbally committed to
Tech along with Stafford linebacker
Jake Johnson.
And the basketball team picked up
a player in Hank Thorns, a 5-9, 175
pound guard from Las Vegas, Nevada.
He averaged 28 points a game, and
scored 12- 40 on his SATs.
