a man this morning after he escaped
from a routine traffic stop.

It happened at around 8:30 last
night on Staple Street near the Rustic
Village trailer park.

Police say the man became
beligerant with the officer who stopped
him and then he ran off.

Police do not want to release
details about his identity because they
are actively following leads.

They do not consider him to be
armed and dangerous.

at the Roanoke Civic Center.

The center is hosting three
events today.

There is an evening concert in
the Coliseum and a recital in the
Performing Arts Theatre.

There will be limited on-site
parking spots.

But there will be free shuttle
buses running continously from the
Elmwood Park Garage to the Civic
Center.

Any drivers not able to park at
Elmwood.. will use the Church Avenue
Garage on the corner of Second Street.

about that.

are implemented.

downtown at night or the

ticket.

Vice Mayor David Trinkle says the
council has receieved a lot of feedback
about the parking change.

He says there is talk about
revisiting the issue and looking at
other possibilities of funding.

new dog park, but city leaders admit
they wish more would use it.

When we visited Fishburn Park
Thursday night, we found plenty of
people at the park, even saw a few
dogs, but we didn't see anyone using
the off leash dog area.

March Neighbors tell us since it opened
back in March, they've seen dogs in the
half an acre site, but it's been
sporadic.

Now, when it comes to any problems at
the park, city leaders say so far so
good.

School Board says officials are now at

"the 50 yard line" in their search for
a new superintendent.

David Carson says the school
board has received 14 applications, and
members are now in the process of
interviewing candidates.

There's no timetable to make a
final decision, but Carson says members
would like to settle the leadership
issue sooner than later.

a victory for critics of a
controversial project in Roanoke.

It now appears a new Social Security
Administration Building will NOT be
built on Henry Street.

may finally be replaced.

The Pepper's Ferry Bridge between
Christiansburg and Radford has been
closed since 2002.

It's now scheduled to be replaced
by 2010.

V-DOT says the 15 million dollar
project might even be advertised as

early as 2009 if funding holds up.

Drivers have been diverted to the
east- bound bridge, ever since the
west- bound structure was hit by a
truck.

The closed section is a major
link between Pulaski and Montgomery
Counties and even surrounds the main
entrance to the Radford Army Ammunition
Plant.

The six-month Atlantic hurricane

fighting.... the violence continues
between the Lebanese army and a group

of al-Quaida inspired militants.

a Palestinian refugee camp today. The
military is demanding the Fatah Islam
fighters to surrender.

As of Friday, as many as 60 militants
