streets holding signs, and waving

A local school group even showed up,

search continues for two others,
missing in Iraq continues....the only
new piece of information

NO SUPER killed after being kidnapped.

Three soldiers were ambushed and
kidnapped by an insurgent group three
weeks ago. The body of one of the
soldiers has been found and the video
claims the other two are also dead.

But no proof is offered on the
video and the Pentagon says it can't
confirm its authenticity.

Council is putting the brakes on a new
parking fee increase in the downtown
area.

would like more time to study the issue
and possibly create a new way to fund
improvement projects instead of
implementing a two dollar flat fee.

Their decision follows weeks of
public outcry, especially from downtown
business owners. They say new parking

rates on nights and weekends would a
hurt their business. ?

City council plans take up the
topic again in September.

And still downtown, Elmwood Park is
the preferred site for a new
amphitheater in Roanoke.

Consultants hired by the city say that
site would work better than the Reserve
Avenue site.. where Victory stadium
used to be.

Some of the reasons: more parking,
easy access from 581, and it would cost
less because it's not on a flood plain.

It's also not as close to
residential areas.

City council members say they'll
talk more about the options later this

a Sheltie puppy as well as a goat and
her new-born kid.

Hampton officials say a man called them
from a McDonald's restaurant this
afternoon to say he was armed but made
NO demands. A SWAT team freed 12
employees and two customers.

Some later, police went back into the

pulled off a hoax.

by.

A man walking on the Normandy
beaches a few years ago, found these
dog tags belonging to Private First
Class William B. Clark.

Clark died in the first wave of the
invasion on June 6th, 1944.

The tags were then given to World
War Two memorabilia collector Bill
Santora who's been helping to track
down Clark's surviving relatives.

home this afternoon in Daytona Beach,
Florida.

No one including Richard Petty or
Dale Earnhardt had a bigger impact on
NASCAR than the sport's former CEO.

2003 France followed in his father's :00 footsteps and took over the day to day
operations of NASCAR in 1972. He took
it from a backwoods southern sport and
turned it into the biggest spectator
sport in America. He was diagnosed
with cancer in 1999 and while his
cancer was in remission, he handed off
the day-to-day duties of running NASCAR
to his son, Brian, in late 2003. In
March of this year, France Jr. was
admitted to Halifax Medical Center in
Daytona but was released to his
doctor's care.

Bill France Junior was 74 years
old - among other things he made NASCAR
a fixture on TV and put the Winston in
Winston Cup with RJ Reynolds 35 years
ago.
