decided not to implement the new price
hike scheduled to start on July 1st.
Instead, the council will spend
the next several months studying the
issue and meeting with downtown
merchants before taking it up again in
September.
Originally, city leaders planned

The money would be used to pay
for a new parking garage as well as
fund various road improvements in the

GRAPHIC=NASCAR We begin tonight with news from
the NASCAR front - where the most
influential figure in the sports died
today at the age of 74.
Bill France, Junior died at his
home this afternoon in Daytona Beach,
Florida.

2003 France followed in his father's
:00 footsteps and took over the day to day
operations of NASCAR in 1972. He took
it from a backwoods southern sport and
turned it into the biggest spectator
sport in America. He was diagnosed
with cancer in 1999 and while his
cancer was in remission, he handed off
the day-to-day duties of running NASCAR
to his son, Brian, in late 2003. In
March of this year, France Jr. was
admitted to Halifax Medical Center in
Daytona under the care of his personal
physicians but was released to his
doctor's care.
Bill France Junior was 74 years
old.

Racing over the past 5 weeks if they
weren't racing at Lowe's Motor
Speedway, then weather has been a
problem.
For the 3rd time in the last 4
point races the Cup Drivers had their
race delayed by rain.

4-hundred being run at Dover on the
Monster Mile, got underway this
afternoon a day late.
Kurt Busch and Tony Stewart
evidently were in a foul mood due to
the rain. Stewart gets in the back of
the 2 putting him into the wall.
On Pit Road under the ensuing
Caution. Busch pulls up next to the 20
car and offers some safe driving advice
before burning the tires and pulling
away. The 2 Car was parked for the
rest of the day by Nascar.
In the end Martin Truex Junior
had the Dominant car on the day,
leading over 2-hundred laps on the day
and picking up his first win of his Cup
Career in addition it gives somebody
other than Hendrick Motorsports a win
with the Car of Tomorrow.

steps in the N-C-A-A Regional by
winning their first 2 games. The Cavs
play tonight at 6 on their Home Field,
with a win the Wahoos would advance to
the Super Regionals.
It would be the first Regional
Title for the Wahoo's since Brian
O'Connor arrived in Charlottesville.

the slammer.

Paris Hilton turned herself over to
authorities in Los Angeles Sunday
night.
Hilton has to stay in a cell that
has a bunk, a table, a sink and a metal
toilet with no seat.
She can only leave for one hour a
day to shower or watch T-V with other
inmates.
Hilton has no cellmate.
She says she could've gone to "a pay
jail," where stars can pick their jail
and pay a daily rate to serve her time.
However the Hilton hotel heiress
decided not to because she wanted to be
treated
like everyone else.
Hilton is serving 23-day sentence
for breaking probation.
