Mountain Lake and the law enforcement
agency in charge of keeping an eye on
the Lake is stretched thin.

Natasha, game wardens are
struggling to man Smith Mountain Lake.

wardens assigned to the Lake. That's
nowhere near where it should be.

VO NAT In fact, Smith Mountain Lake has
the same amount of game wardens that it
did two summers ago when there were a
number of high profile deadly
accidents.

That prompted calls for more

enforcement.

In fact, a safety task force
recommended the lake have at least 19
wardens but two years later that hasn't
happened.

are investigating a possible drowning
in Moneta.

Authorities were called to this
house on Stony Fork Road a little after
three this afternoon.

When they arrived, they found the
body of 69 year old Bobby Zeigler in
his backyard pool.

Zeigler's body has been sent to

the medical examiners office in Roanoke

County's most historic monuments was
hit by a truck tonight.

Officials say a man was speeding
when he lost control of his Chevy S-10
pickup and hit the Confederate Monument
in front of the Courthouse.

The monument was heavily damaged.

The truck came to a stop on the
courthouse steps.

The statue is a monument to the
confederate soldiers of Franklin
County, and was dedicated in the early
1900's.

the shootings on the Virginia Tech
campus....and while those lost are
still missed, we are getting a look at
how the university plans to remember
them.

The university plans to replace

Officers say someone left this
five month-old German Shepherd mix at
Mount Pleasant Park.

A worker found the dog tied up
with a bowl of water.

They believe the dog was there
overnight.

Officers consider this to be a
case of animal cruelty because the dog
was willfully left.

approved a study that should clear the
way for improvements to Interstate 81.
