monuments is now just pieces of rubble
after a pickup truck plowed into it
tonight and knocked it over.

Officials say the driver was
speeding when he lost control of his
Chevy S-10 pickup and hit the
Confederate Monument in front of the
Courthouse in Rocky Mount. The monument
was knocked over and heavily damaged.

The truck came to a stop on the
courthouse steps.

The statue is a monument to the
confederate soldiers of Franklin
County, and was dedicated in the early
1900's.

problem these days at Smith Mountain
Lake, it's one many probably assumed
had been solved.

there were several high profile
accidents at the Lake, one that was
fatal.

That prompted calls for more
enforcement.

In fact, a safety task force
recommended the state double the amount
of game wardens assigned to the Lake.

wardens assigned to Smith Mountain
Lake.

Lake, Bedford County Sheriff's Deputies
are investigating a possible drowning

house on Stony Fork Road in Moneta a
little after three this afternoon.

When they arrived, they found the

body of 69 year old Bobby Zeigler in
his backyard pool.

Zeigler's body has been sent to
the medical examiner's office in
Roanoke for further investigation.

bus full of school children.

Animal Control officers believe someone
did after leaving a dog abandoned in a
park.

Officers say someone left this
five month-old German Shepherd mix at
Mount Pleasant Park.

A worker found the dog tied up
with a bowl of water.

was willfully left.

park.

It'll be called Six Wags Dog Park
and it's scheduled to open July 7th.

The four-acre park is
privately-owned and will have a
membership fee.

The Blacksburg girls tennis team
was supposed to play Tabb high school

girls from the Peninsula had a minor

and 95 on the way here today. No one
was seriously hurt, but the team has
decided to forfeit its state matches.

This Season The Titans' senior is a starting
centerfielder for Hidden Valley's
baseball team that will play Waynesboro
in the Final Four tomorrow. Bane has
been able to pull off the rarest of
triple plays his senior year.

He also was a wide receiver on

the Titans' football team that made it
all the way to the State semi-finals
before losing to Richlands.

And he starred on the Hidden
Valley basketball team that also made
it to the Group Two A Final Four.

In all, Bane has started on three
Final Four teams in the same school
