Confederate monument shattered into
many pieces last night can be restored.

when a man ran his pickup off Main
Street yesterday evening, struck the
monument and sent it toppling to the
ground in pieces.
The driver was treated and
released, though mending the monument
may not be so easy.

Franklin County Courthouse to survey
the damage done to a piece of their
history, a 23-foot tall confederate
monument.

has pickup off off the road, hit this
fire hydrant, then the monument and
finally came to rest on the courthouse
steps.
Police have charged Ozmore with
driving under the influence.

Ozmore has auto insurance that could
cover the cost.
As for the price tag on the
monument, no one knows the exact amount
but could easily run several hundred

I-T-T says some employees

Council member was killed this morning
in a motorcycle accident.

Ashworth died after being airlifted to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The accident happened around 9:00
A-M near the intersection of Depot and
East Main Streets.
The driver of a car was also

apartment, she discovered someone had
taken her lap top, some D-V-D's and a

The judge heard sufficient evidence
today to convict Newman of breaking and
entering and grand larceny, but
deferred a finding of guilt.

Today, the Virginia Supreme
Court turned down an appeal from Teresa
Lewis.

Glebe and its owner, Virginia Baptist
Homes, are not exempt from county real
estate taxes.
In his ruling, Judge Michael
Irvine wrote that The Glebe's
operations were neither benevolent nor
exlusively religious. Therefore, the
property is not tax-exempt.
Botetourt County says the
Glebe's tax bill could be more than
200-thousand dollars.

College.

some of the entrance signs on the
campus to read "Randolph College" ...
the name the school adopted when it
decided to go co-ed.
About 40 exterior signs and another
100 inside ones will have to be changed
over in the next few weeks.
A spokesperson says a total of 61
men have financially committed to
attend the school in the fall.

sprouting in eastern Roanoke County,
and it will include Kroger's largest
store in the valley.

Kroger has invested more than
22-million dollars to construct a store
along Route 460 in Bonsack. The
shopping center will cover more than
106-thousand-square-feet and will
include a drive-thru pharmacy,
specialty shops, restaurants and a fuel
station.
The Kroger store alone is
estimated to generate one-point-five
million dollars in tax revenues a year.
