game wardens assigned to Smith Mountain
Lake

officers that patroled the Lake two
summers ago when there was a number of
high profile accidents, one of them
which was fatal.
That prompted calls for more
patrols.
In fact, a safety task force
recommended the lake have at least 19
wardens but nearly two years later that
hasn't happened.

are investigating a possible drowning
just a few miles from Smith Mountain
Lake.

Authorities were called to this
house on Stony Fork Road in Moneta a
little after three yesteday afternoon.
When they arrived, they found the
body of 69 year old Bobby Zeigler in
his backyard pool.
Zeigler's body has been sent to
the medical examiner's office in
Roanoke for further investigation.

Officials armed with a search
warrant that suggests they're taking
over the investigation into the Falcons
quarterback's possible involvement in
dogfighting.
More than a dozen vehicles went
to the home early yesterday afternoon.
Investigators searched inside
before turning their attention to the
area where officials found dozens of
dogs in late April and evidence that
suggested the home was involved in a
dogfighting operation.
As federal authorities searched,
another search warrant obtained earlier
by LOCAL officials expired yesterday
without being executed.

GRAPHIC=Crime, Generic Its been a little harder to catch
a summer movie in Rockbridge County
lately.
That, after nearly 50 speakers
were stolen from a local drive-in
theatre.

It happened at Hull's Drive-In
about two weeks ago...after a movie.
The manager says they clipped the
speakers....most of which are about 57
years old.
To repair and to replace the
speakers will cost the theater between
13 to 14-hundred dollars.

County is in pieces after a pickup
truck plowed into it last night and
knocked it over.

Officials say the driver was
speeding when he lost control of his
Chevy S-10 pickup, and hit the
Confederate Monument in front of the
Courthouse in Rocky Mount.
The monument was knocked over and
heavily damaged.
The truck came to a stop on the
courthouse steps.
The statue is a monument to the
confederate soldiers of Franklin
County, and was dedicated in the early
1900's.

lovers-- but animal control is
searching for the dog owner who
apparently abandoned their pet in a
Roanoke County park.

Officers say someone left this five
month-old German Shepherd mix at Mount
Pleasant Park.
A worker found the dog tied up
with a bowl of water.
They believe the dog was there
overnight.
Officers consider this to be a
case of animal cruelty because the dog
was willfully left.

summer" is taking on new meaning in
Salem.

The old driving range behind
Lee-Hi lanes in Salem is becoming a dog
park.

March opened in Roanoke's Fishburn Park- Six
Wags Dog Park in Salem will be slightly
different.
It's a private park which will be
fenced in and have certain requirements
- animals will have to go through
temperment testing and have up to date
vaccinations.
