in Iraq.

Police say 11 guards and three
relatives were killed, but the chief
himself was not home.

historic monuments is now just pieces
of rubble after a pickup truck plowed
into it last night and knocked it over.

Officials say the driver was
speeding when he lost control of his
Chevy S-10 pickup and hit the
Confederate Monument in front of the
Courthouse in Rocky Mount.

The monument was knocked over and
heavily damaged.

The truck came to a stop on the
courthouse steps.

The statue is a monument to the
confederate soldiers of Franklin
County, and was dedicated in the early
1900's.

enforcement on Smith Mountain Lake will
have to be patient. Right now, there
are only 13 game wardens assigned to

the lake.

officers that patroled the Lake two
summers ago when there were a number of
high profile accidents, one of them
which was fatal.

That prompted calls for more
patrols.

In fact, a safety task force
recommended the lake have at least 19

Deputies are investigating a possible
drowning

house on Stony Fork Road in Moneta a
little after three yesteday afternoon.

When they arrived, they found the
body of 69 year old Bobby Zeigler in
his backyard pool.

suspect involved in the robbery and
murder of a Lynchburg man last year.

allegedly left his gun unattended on a
bus full of school children.

Extra's longtime veteran assistant and
head coaches has decided to step down.

Brad Morton is stepping off the
field at Covington after 36 seasons.

at the club's airfield in Salem behind

80 inches or larger on the mono-planes
and 60 inches or long on bi-planes.

over the investigation into the Falcons
quarterback's possible involvement in
dogfighting.

More than a dozen vehicles went
to the home early yesterday afternoon.

Investigators searched inside

dogs in late April and evidence that
suggested the home was involved in a
dogfighting operation.

As federal authorities searched,

and it's scheduled to open July 7th.

The four-acre park is

have to be patient. Right now, there
are only 13 game wardens assigned to
the lake.

drowning

local rivers. State environmental
experts want to know why.

Last month, D-E-Q said fish kills
had been reported in the upper James
River in Botetourt County as well as
the Cowpasture, Maury and Shenandoah
Rivers.

New information released
yesterday shows dead fish have been
appearing in the James River near
Lynchburg as well.

The fish affected are mostly
small-mouth bass and redbreast sunfish,
though other species have been found
dead or suffering from sores.

Scientists have been taking
samples of water and river sediment to
see if they contain any known fish
viruses.

head coaches has decided to step down.

Brad Morton is stepping off the
field at Covington after 36 seasons.

The event is Saturday and Sunday
at the club's airfield in Salem behind
