GRAPHIC=Severe Weather A lightning bolt killed a
14-year-old boy today as he ran with a
companion toward a barn for shelter.

According to the National Weather
Service, it happened just after 5:00 as
a thunderstorm rolled through Campell
County ...about five miles east
Northeast of Gladys.
Sources say the boy was out
fishing with another person.
When the storm arrived, the two
ran for cover. That's when the bolt
hit the teen on his upper shoulder and
went throught his lower torso.
E-M-S immediately responded...but
they were unable to revive him.

pregnant woman was murdered in
Martinsville.
Tonight a manhunt is underway for

Royal Drive is getting back to
normal after an early morning shooting
disrupted this residential neighborhood
and left 21 year-old Tasha Nowlin of
Martinsville dead.

suspect knew one another and were at
one point romantically involved.
According to authorities, they
were having a dispute in the street
Saturday morning when the shooting
occurred.
It was a single gunshot wound to
Nowlin's throat that killed her.
Police have now issued five
felony warrants for Faulkner including
one for capital murder.

THE INVESTIGATION HAS SHOWN THAT THE
VICTIM TASHA NOWLIN WAS EXPECTING A
CHILD. AND IN VIRGINIA IF YOU KILL

EXPECTING A CHILD THAT IS A CAPITAL
MURDER CHARGE.

OQ= Hankins tells us he doesn't know
how many months pregnant Nowlin was but
that their investigation has shown that
Faulkner was the father.
They plan to use DNA tests to
verify that.
Police don't know if Faulkner is
still in city limits but they're
hopeful investigators will track him
down.
Officials tells us neither
Faulkner nor Nowlin lived on Royal
Drive and they're still investigating
what brought them to this area.

County are investigating a fatal
shooting tonight.
This happened in mobile home park
in the Brosville community.
When deputies responded to a
home, they found a man had been shot to
death.
His name is not being released
pending notification of next of kin.
A suspect is in custody.

GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident A family in Bland County has also
been torn a part this weekend following
a deadly car accident.
State Police tell us a man was
driving with his two children on Route
52 in the Rocky Gap area of the county
when his truck ran off the road and
skidded almost 300 feet.
The pickup finally came to a stop
underneath a parked truck trailer.
The father and one of his
children died.
The other child was careflighted
to Roanoke Memorial in serious
condition.
Authorities say speed was likely
a factor.
At this point they're
with-holding the names of the family.

seatbelt likely saved another driver

Authorities say a Roanoke woman
was driving south on this morning when
she overcorrected and flipped into

A passerby used a tree branch to
knock out the window and free her.
The 51-year-old only suffered
minor injuries.
Police charged her with reckless
driving.

says the number of rabid animals has
increased in the Roanoke Valley.

cases, one of those animals was a cat.
That's why the Health Department
partnered with other organizations to
host this rabies clinic in Salem.
Animal Control says less than

and ferrets showed up to get their

crashed into an apartment complex
Saturday injuring the bus driver and a
few passengers.

caused it to swerve and slam into the
complex.

involvement in organized dogfighting.

OQ=News 7 Sports. << It was the 5th meeting this
(END SOT) season between Blacksburg and Cave
Spring. The Knights looking for their
first win of the year against the
Bruins, and if they could get it, it
would be for the biggest piece of
hardware that you can play for in High
School Soccer.
In the Early Going it was Cave
Spring who was on the offensive,
pushing the action in the Blacksburg
Zone. But the Knights were unable to
get one past Bruins keeper Logan Baird
and his group of Defenders.
The Game stayed Scoreless until
the 31st minuted when Tim Becker would
play the pretty one touch for the Goal.
It was especially sweet for Becker who
hit the post on a wide open goal in
last year's State Title Game loss.
The Second Half belonged to the
Bruins Taylor Woodrum would put home
the goal on the one-time. That
provided the final margin of victory as
Blacksburg beats Cave Spring 2 to
nothing to win the Group AA Boys Soccer
State Title.

trying to complete an amazing
turnaround today in the Group Two A
championship.
The Titans began this season
losing 7 of their first 12 games - but
today had a chance to dethrone
defending state champ Turner Ashby.

Turner Ashby vs. Hidden Valley The Titans were not intimidated
:00 in the least by the presence of Turner
Ashby Ace Andrew Armstrong on the
mound. Armstrong is headed to Ohio
State and Friday night was drafted by
the Atlanta Braves.
But against Hidden Valley the
left hander got in a hole early as
Aaron Lower's fielder's choice plates
Jayson Divers tying the game at 1-all.
Then in the second inning - Ryan
Larson would smack a double to drive
home Joe Greenway from second and the
Titans led 2-to-1. That lead held up
until the top of the 5th.
When T.A. exploded for five runs
in the frame. The big blow was this
three run homer off the bat of
Armstrong. The senior -who pitched a
complete game and struck out a dozen -
helps his own cause in a big way as the
Knights take a 6-to-2 lead.
The Titans kept scrapping and got
two more in the bottom of the fifth -
one on this passed ball third strike.

County locked up with Strasburg for the
right to hoist the Group A Baseball
hardware.

Strasburg vs. Grayson Co. It was a near perfect afternoon
:00 by the New River at Dedmon Center Park
where the Blue Devils hoped to keep
their bats popping against the Rams, as
they had all postseason.
But offense was tough to come by
in this one. Grayson County managed
but 7 hits the entire ballgame
struggling at the plate throughout.
The big problem for the Blue
Devils was Strasburg's Riley Mcdonald
who absolutely feasted on Grayson
County's pitching. Mcdonald keyed a 5
run second inning for the Rams, which
basically put the game away.

Glenvar vs. William Campbell Before the championship started, 3
:00 of the Generals seniors picked up their
diplomas because the tournament forced
them to miss graduation.
Glenvar looked like it would
spoil the festivities early in the
game. Kelly Kenoble, the junior
shortstop rips a shot the fence in
centerfield that went for a triple.
The Highlanders had a runner in scoring
position right off the bat.
But William Campbell's Amber
Marstin responded to every Highlanders
threat. Marstin had the good stuff
today, throwing a complete game
shutout.
She got plenty of help from her
teammates at the plate. Drew Rutledge
tees off on this pitch for a triple of
her own to center.
