GRAPHIC=ROY STANLEY The annual Roy Stanley Memorial

celebrity golf outing and auction are
coming up later this week.

The auction is set for this
Thursday night at Bast Center on the
Roanoke College campus.

It has been five year since Roy's
passing in April of 2002 and in that
time the community has supported our
efforts to fund scholarships beyond
belief.

But the fact is - there are a lot
of causes - and five years is a long
time for folks to stay focused or

passiobate about a cause these days

Plus, some of you viewers have no
idea who Roy Stanley was or why this
event is so important.

Tonight, we thought we'd let 17
year NBA veteran Dell Curry help us
with a refresher course.

OQ=...WDBJ7 DOT COM." << For 30 years Wytheville native
(END SOT) Roy Stanley was a fixture on your

hometown station. The Dean of
sportscasters in the state of Virginia
was the master of earning the trust of
coaches and athletes everywhere.

When he passed away in April of
2002, people from all walks of life
rallied to support what was thought to

be a one time gofl tournament and
auction designed to raise enough money
to fund one annual $1000 grant forever.

But the reponse was so great -
the tournament was expanded - and the
auction has continued. To date nearly
20 high school students have received
scholarships and over $100 thousand
dollars has been raised for the cause.

DELL CURRY

Curry got to know Roy when he
arrived on the Tech campus in 1982
there friendship and professional
relationship continued through Dell's
days in the NBA right up until his
passing 02.

DELL CURRY.

Not surprisingly Curry has
contributed a number of items to this
year's auction. 50 items in all will
be up for grabs on Thursday night in
the silent and live auctions

You can get a complete list of
the items on our web site at
