tonight....Republicans from Botetourt
County to Radford have all but voted
State Senator Brandon Bell out of
office.

Former Roanoke Mayor Ralph Smith had
accused Bell of not being conservative
enought to represent the 22nd district
in Richmond,

TAKE LEADER 100 RESULTS

and Republican voters in the district
agree.

Here's a look at the final numbers.
Smith defeated Bell by 75 votes - just
over one per cent - out of more than
72-hundred cast, and he'll be the
Republican candidate in November.

would be key and that appears to have
carried him to victory.

and that's where the most votes were
cast.

Tonight, Smith thanked supporters
at a celebration party at 419 West.

He told the crowd he believes
voters chose him because of his
conservative credentials.

24th district, where Senator Emmett
Hanger faced a highly visible challenge
from Rockbrigde County business owner,
Scott Sayre.

Hanger was among the Republicans
who voted FOR the tax increase that
passed in 2004.

And the vote totals for this
race...this time the incumbent would
NOT be defeated.....Hanger held his
ground with 53 percent of the vote.

is investigating the death of a
one-year-old girl ....

A call to 9-1-1 brought ambulance
crews to her babysitter's house at 123

Briar Hill Drive in Fieldale this
morning.

Investigators say the
babysitter's nine-year-old daughter was
playing with Jayda Easley when she
noticed the child was not breathing
porperly.

The baby died a short time later
while under medical treatment. Now,
there is no suggestion of any
negligence or wrongdoing.

office in the wake of a federal fraud
conviction last year...and now the city
leaders have voted to seize a house
former Lynchburg mayor Carl Hutcherson
owned.

The city voted five to zero to
seize this home in the 900 block of
Taylor Street ... it's owned by
Hutcherson and his brother Gerard.

The house is in serious disrepair
and officials say required repairs have
not been made.

The law allows the city to seize
blighted property if it's a public
safety and health risk.

The housing authority says
Hutcherson has been trying to sell the
property with no success.

The city will now try to reach an
agreement with the Hutchersons on what
a fair price for the property is.

that Walmart intends to open up shop in
Blacksburg -- despite mounting
opposition.

A Walmart spokesperson confirmed

today that the company is considering a
site in Blacksburg, but would not say
where.

Properties of Ohio will build a Walmart
on South Main Street.

The second big indicator came
from a town planner.

While sifting through hundreds of
pages of documents, the staff member
discovered a tiny reference to Walmart
in the site plans for the project.

in Roanoke met today with city leaders
to discuss the ongoing problem of
teenagers.

says Valley View has become a

babysitting service of sorts on
weekends.

We're told nothing concrete came
out of today's meeting with the mayor
but both sides agreed to meet again in
the future.

The police department also
reported the number of incidents at the
mall is actually down compared to last

today.

During today's testimony, a
police investigator says Nifong called
the Duke Lacrosse team quote "a bunch

If convicted, Nifong could be

Built from muffler parts, pipes,
nuts and bolts, the Muffler Man has
been a fixture outside of Jiffy
Automotive Service for more than 20
years.

He was pinched during a high
school scavenger hunt fifteen years
ago, but was returned a couple of weeks
later. A more recent kidnapping
attempt was unsuccessful.

When VanDerVeer came to work on
Monday morning, he noticed Muffler Man
was missing once again.

Muffler Man stands about five
feet tall, the pipes weigh about 70
pounds... but the concrete base weighs

another 350.

his current team of D-E-I. What was
unknown at the time was where he would
end up. That seems to be no longer in
question.

of media outlets that Little E will
sign with Hendrick Motorsports. Junior
has called a press conference tomorrow
at his race Shop in Mooresville, North
Carolina at 11 am.

Hendrick orginally said they had
no room for Earnhardt Junior but that

tune has changed and Little E is coming
aboard with Kyle Busch being the driver
to exit. Hendrick Motorsports runs
Chevy's which was a wish for Earnhardt
and is the dominant team this season
having won 10 of 15 Points Races thus
far.

gorillas....

Sunday People dressed in gorilla
costumes this past weekend and strolled
around Golden Gate Park.

It was part of the first ever

Great Gorilla Charity Run.

And as you can see a few even
played the part.

Organizers say 250 signed up for
the event.

The money raised from this event
will go towards helping save gorillas
in Central Africa.
