With his immigration reform plan
stalled in Congress.President Bush is

making a rare personal appearance on
Capitol Hill hoping to sway Senate

Republicans to back the bill.

(sot: Tony Snow/White House Spokesman)

There are some people who are not going

to be persuaded because they

disagree with it. But there are also a
lot of people saying right now,

who is right here? country. (:10)

At issue is a measure that would
legalize 12 million illegal immigrants

and tighten border security. But
conservative republicans say the bill

goes too far and would grant amnesty to
people who have broken the law.

Senate Democrats say they will revive
the issue if more Republicans

back it.

(Roberts Bridge)

Theres no question, passing the
immigration reform bill is a top

priority for the President as he enters
the last 18 months of his

presidency and struggles to overcome
opposition within his own party.

(poll graphic)

And it is not any better among the
American public, disapproval of his

on the job performance now hovers close
to 70 percent.

But the President remains
optimisticlast week at the G-8 summit
he

vowed to turn the tide.

Sot: President Bush

And I believe we can get it done, Ill
see you at the bill signing.

But right now, there are many doubters
on Capitol Hill and its not

certain if one visit there can make a
difference.

Stanley passed away in April of 2002.

Since then, the community has

supported the efforts of those who were
touched by Roy to fund scholarships for
local high school students.

The annual Roy Stanley Memorial
celebrity golf outing and auction is
coming up at the end of the week.

But, some viewers may have no
idea who Roy Stanley was, or why this
event is so important.

Mike Stevens, with the help of
17- year NBA veteran Dell Curry gives
us a refresher course.
