Apppomattox has left one man dead.

Calvin Lee Megginson meg-in-son
of Concord was driving a dunebuggy on
Route 605 in the Stonewall-area around
7:30 last night.

State police say the driver of a
Nissan Pickup struck the vehicle.

58-year-old Megginson meg-in-son
died at the scene.

The accident is still under
investigation.

evening in the college town of
Blacksburg - ended with eight people
hurt- when a car ran onto the sidewalk
near a popular hang out.

Police believe the person
responsible may have been drinking, and
on top of that, they say she was

underage.

It's not the usual scene you

expect to see on a Saturday morning on
Main Street in Blacksburg.

A sidewalk normally filled with
pedestrians is instead cleared out
after this SUV made its way off the
road and onto the walkway.

CORNER WHERE SHARKEY'S IS THERE COULD
BE 100 PEOPLE OUTSIDE LATE AT NIGHT.

OQ= Police say the driver, 20

year-old Mary Elizabeth Bowen was going
North on Main Street, crossed the
center line and plowed into a crowd of
people before striking the building.

In the process, Bowen took down a
tree, a light pole and left eight
people injured.

WERE NOT LIFE THREATENING. CERTAINLY
WHENEVER A VEHICLE STRIKES UNPROTECTED

OQ= Police arrested Bowen and charged

her with driving under the influence.

A breath test showed her blood
alcohol level to be a .20, 2 and half
times the legal limit.

IS A VERY SERIOUS TRAFFIC OFFENSE AND

IN THIS CASE TO THE MOTORIST HERSELF.

drinking age was not injured.

But police say it could have been
deadly.

No other cars were involved in
the crash as she traveled across
several lanes of traffic.

Police say she became distracted
behind the wheel.

They're still investigating and
are not sure if speed played a factor.

GRAPHIC=Fire A Roanoke EMS crew came to the

rescue of another ambulance crew -
*out* of all places at the hospital.

An ambulance from Greenbrier
County, West Virginia caught fire
outside Roanoke Memorial's E-R last
night.

According to a spokesperson - the
Roanoke crew saw the fire in the back
of the ambulance as they were finishing
a call.

An attendant and a patient were
pulled from the fire.

The attendant was taken to the
U-V-A burn center.

The patient was not hurt.

The cause is under
investigation...but authorities think
it could have been some type of
electrical malfunction.

County Friday night sending a
17-year-old to the emergency room.

It happened in Ridgeway on

Soapstone Road, close to midnight.

The victim told authorities he'd
pulled over and got out of his car when
a dark colored vehicle drove up next to
him.

That's when authorities say a
male passenger inside the second car
fired before taking off.

The victim is expected to
recover.

are investigating a stabbing near
Martinsville.

Authorities were called to
Barrows Mill around 11 last night where
they discovered 23-year-old Judson
Hankins had been stabbed several times.

Investigators believe there may
have been a party going on inside the
home followed by an argument.

Hankins was taken to Martinsville
Memorial Hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.

Authorities are asking anyone who
knows or saw what happened to come
forward.

County Sports Complex.

The facility includes
four-championship level softball and
youth baseball fields.

three-story tower, with room for

hope it will also bring high profile
tournaments to the area.

Authorities declared a state of
emergency in Berlin this weekend due to
heavy rain that resulted in severe
flooding across the region.

parked cars, basements and homes
flooded by torrential rain.

Streets were flooded and remained
impassable.

Two house fires caused by
lightning strikes were reported.

Houses and basements were flooded
and some trees were uprooted from high

Even the Autobahn highway was

impassable in the Munich area after
heavy rainfall made the road too
treacherous.

in western Oklahoma this past week.

This tornado was captured in
Fairview, Oklahoma.

Weather experts say its hazy
looking because it's a "rain-wrapped"
tornado.

These tornadoes are dangerous,

reported.

Apppomattox has left one man dead.

Calvin Lee Megginson meg-in-son
of Concord was driving a dunebuggy on
Route 605 in the Stonewall-area around
7:30 last night.

State police say the driver of a
Nissan Pickup struck the vehicle.

58-year-old Megginson meg-in-son
died at the scene.

The accident is still under
investigation.

A "burn-out" is a race in which
the winning driver is first to go from

pole and then slammed into the crowd of
spectators.

found in a burning van in Chicago,
making him the 33rd Chicago Public
School student to die this year.

yesterday where they discovered the
charred remains of Laserick Webster.

Witnesses say they tried to put
out the flames.

The van had apparently been there
for some time and was reportedly a
hangout for neighborhood children.

Authorities say the murder may be
a case of mistaken identity.

Blacksburg started piecing each one
together to be given as blankets to the
32 families who lost loved ones.

Each blanket takes several hours

farmers in Southwest Virginia.

Congressman Rick Boucher says
farmers in 21 counties are eligible for
federal aid to compensate for drought
losses.

The money will be for crop and
feed losses suffered by farmers in 2005
and 2006.

The federal help comes as many
farmers are in the midst of
experiencing even more dessert-like
conditions.

Juneteenth festival yesterday at
Washington Park.

It was the first celebration of
its kind to draw out local crowds in
the Star City.

Juneteenth dates back to 18-65
when Texas slaves were the last to find
out they were free - two years after

Proclamation.

Workers with the Southern
Christian Leadership Conference had
been planning yesterday's festival for
months and say they've encountered some
opposition in the process.
