charges for vandalism in several
Roanoke neigborhoods over the weekend.

their homes spray-painted and their
car-tires slashed.

Police are in the process of
charging two-13-year-old boys and a
14-year-old girl.

Police say that 20-year-old
Angelo Mortaze Carter of Roanoke will
also be charged.

ahead with plans for a new
amphitheater, and city council has
designated property along the Roanoke
River as the preferred site.

after a consultant recommended Elmwood
Park for the new facility. Yesterday,
representatives of the downtown
business community urged council to
build the amphitheater there.

Vice Mayor David Trinkle said
that while both locations have
advantages, he believes the Victory
Stadium site is the best alternative
for the future of Roanoke.

arrested on multiple charges related to
a sexual relationship with a
fourteen-year-old girl.

The Alleghany County
Commonwealth's Attorney announced
yesterday that 63-year-old Henry Walton
Hutchison has been charged with five
counts of non-forcible sodomy and 14
counts of taking indecent liberties
with a child under 18.

Hutchison is being held without
bond in the Alleghany Regional Jail.

But, they were re-charged for
services provided in October and
December that essentially depletes
those funds.

An Appalachian Power spokesman
says this is *NOT* the refund promised
to customers in the wake of a State
Corporation Commission ruling, but in
fact the result of a computer and
programming error.

That was made clear
yesterday with the announcement of a
new land deal.

The Roanoke County school
system is buying the Poage Farm that
sits along Route 221.

The county will pay
two-and-a-half million dollars for the
nearly 55 acres of property.

It may not be developed for
school purposes for another decade.

Members of the school board say
it will meet future needs.

In the meantime, the Poage
family will continue to run the farm.

field trip to Europe have been sent
home early.

During a routine bed check in

France last week, a chaperone
discovered that one of the students was
in possession of marijuana. Two others
in the room were considered to be "in
the presence" of pot.

The next morning all three were on
their way home at their parents'
expense.

Though it was technically not a
North Cross field trip, Headmaster Paul
Stellato says the 18 students on the
trip had agreed to abide by the same
code of conduct, as if they were in
school at North Cross.
