especially frustrating.

All D-M-V offices across the
state had to close unexpectedly.

hardware failure in one of the state's
mainframes earlier this morning.

As a result, it's affecting a
number of state agencies including the
D-M-V.

That forced the state to close
all its D-M-V customer service centers
and it left the agency's website
unusable.

Dozens of people showed up at the
Roanoke location this afternoon, having
no idea there was even a problem.

As you might imagine, many of
them left angry, confused, and
frustrated.

operations, State Police are working on
something else.

Air, Land and Speed" to Interstate 81,
AND I-77 from the North Carolina line
to the Wytheville area.

State Police hope the extra
patrols will reduce traffic accidents
and deaths.

even some in the air - along 81 and 77
Friday and Saturday.

Now a local man is trying his case in

battery on a police officer.

It happened after this June 17
traffic stop in downtown Roanoke last
year -which Poindexter posted on the

though he didn't do anything wrong.

security changes for students this
fall.

All the doors will have crash

Dorms will be locked 24 hours a

day. Students will have to swipe their
Hokie Passport to get into their dorm
and will have limited access to other

The new measures are in response

announce several more security changes
in August before the new school year

epi-center of the average earthquake,

but scientists at Randolph-Macon
Woman's College are getting a chance to
study them first-hand.

The school will soon be home to a
seismograph as part of Virginia Tech's
Seismological network.

Those were some of the facts
R-M-W-C scientists laid out during a
demonstration on earthquakes today at

Jessie Davis has been missing
from her Ohio home since last
Wednesday.

Her mother reported her missing
after discovering the woman's two-year
old son alone, a pool of bleach on the
floor, and her comforter and cell phone
missing.

test results from a baby that was found
on a doorstep 45 miles from Davis'
home.

While investigators don't believe
the girl is connected to this case,
they want to eliminate that

burns....that's what the Charleston
County coroner says killed nine
firefighters Monday.

that the collapse of the roof at the
furniture store did not cause the
firefighters' deaths, though it's not
clear whether they were trapped by the
collapse.

City and state officials also
announced plans today to investigate
the department's handling of the fire.

regulations provide additional

connected with a whole lot of postive
things recently. His alleged
involvement in a dog-fighting ring at a
house that he owned has led to a
meeting with the Commissioner of the
N-F-L as well as a talking to by the
owner of his Team the Atlanta Falcons.

Vick though is being backed up by
one of the companies that he endorses
and it's a big one. Nike will not drop
Vick from their roster of Celebrity
athletes. The Humane Society of the
United States sent a letter to Nike
suggesting that they get rid of Vick
because of the reports of him being a
big time player in the Dog Fighting
world.

Nike though said they would honor
the contract that they have with Vick
who has his own line of Athletic Shoes
and is in a number of the companies

in connection with a shooting outside

Now news out of Las Vegas is that
Pacman will be charged with 2 felonies
as part of a fight that broke out
inside a Las Vegas Strip Club, that was
followed by a Triple Shooting in the
Parking Lot.

The Charges against Jones say he
threatened to kill club employees and
bit a bouncer on the ankle.

take place in early October.

this morning.

The festival will be part of the
city's 125th birthday celebration and
is supposed to draw attention to the
cultural and artistic life of the
region.

Rick Salzberg, (sal-z-burg) the

arts festival manager, hopes it will
encourage tourism and economic
development in the area.

The weekend begins with the
musical Hank Williams: Lost Highway.

Other performances include Judy
Collins, Southwest Virginia Ballet and
the James Piano Quartet.
