funding to several highway improvement
projects in southwest Virginia. They're
part of the state's six-year plan
approved today.

Roanoke, though work probably won't
begin for another five years.
Other major projects include new
lanes on parts of I-81, a new

against the man accused of murdering a
pastor.

Charles Cobler sat in a Franklin
County courtroom today as two
investigators testified against him.
One witness said Cobler confessed
to the murder of Nancy Copin.
The deputy indicated Cobler said
he parked his Ford Bronco at Copin's
church, then walked to her home.
Cobler allegedly said he told
Copin that he ran out of gas and needed
to use the phone, so she let him in.

NOT on drugs the day he killed 32
people on the Virginia Tech campus.
According to State Police, the
autopsy and toxicology reports on Cho
revealed NO prescription or toxic
substances in his system as of April
16th.
State Police also received
autopsy reports on Cho's victims, but
they are NOT releasing those findings.

deal with a national company to expand
its emergency alert system.
Students, faculty and staff can
begin signing up their cell phone
numbers next Monday and the system will
be operational on August 20th, the
first day of classes.
During emergencies, Tech will be
able to send messages to cell phones as
text messages and also over the
computer on instant message systems
like A-O-L or Yahoo.

still without water and town officials

which were installed back in 1936.

completion, and now it has a name.

School Board voted to call it Patriots
Stadium, with the field named in honor
of coach Merrill Gainer.
Gainer was the head football
coach at P-H from 1969 to 1977. He led
the team to a state championship in

first home game August 31st.

construction of Roanoke's new Art
Museum has been completed.

Hundreds came to a "Topping Out"
ceremony and watched as the last steel
beam rose into place at the new
Museum.
The Art Museum of Western
Virginia held the ceremony to celebrate
the completion of the
structural-and-roof steel with the
placement of the last beam which
ironworkers have come to call "topping
out."
People at the party got a chance
to leave their mark by autographing the
final beam before it was hoisted into
place.
The ceremony honored the
construction crew that has been working
on the museum since May of last year.

Blacksburg's boys soccer coach.

Group AA State Championship Blumenthal, who recently won his
:00 8th state title at the school to go
with 3 state runner-up finishes, is
leaving the Bruins to accept a guidance
counselor position at the Roanoke
Valley Governor's School.
No replacement has been named.
Blumenthal won a whopping 311 games
against just 20 losses and 14 ties. He
spent 16 seasons at Blacksburg.

field for a double. That would bring in
Ryan Reed for the home team.

for a 24 hour run on a treadmill.
He started his run on top of a
building in Times Square this morning.
The current record is 153 miles.
The run is also for a good cause.
He's raising awareness for
Athletes for a Cure.

find a cure for prostate cancer.
