GRAPHIC=Virginia Tech Virginia Tech has announced that

it will be implementing a new emergency
alert system on campus known as "VT
Alerts".

New technology will enable
officials to send messages to
subscribers using methods not
maintained by the university.

These methods include text
messages and phone calls to personal
cell phones.

Also, instant messages and e-mail
can be sent to systems such as America
Online that reside outside of the
university's network.

Students, faculty, and staff will
be able to sign up for the "VT Alerts"
beginning on July 2nd.

The system is expected to be
fully operational by August 20th, the
first day of fall classes.

April One Tech athlete who is excelling
a long way from home is Drew Weaver.

The rising junior is playing
across the pond in the British Amatuer
and doing pretty well.

He shot a 2-under par second
round to advance to the match play
portion.

Weaver is one of only 64 to make
it to the third round out of 288 in the

Land crabs have returned to a
Coral Gables, Florida community.

Authorities say the sudden influx
of land crabs is driven by love.

The crustacean migration route
has been the same for thousands of
years, but the homes in
Gables-by-the-Sea have been there for
less than a century.

The crabs don't care.

They invade yards, driveways, and
even cross the road to get to the other
side.

At least the lucky ones do.
