several highway improvement projects in
southwest Virginia.

They're covered by the state's
six-year plan.

Coffee in downtown Salem late yesterday
afternoon.

building when firefighters arrived.

They evacuated the building
and contained the fire to the roaster.
Most of the damage was limited to the
machine but they had remove parts of
the wall to make sure the fire hadn't

All week expressions of sorrow and
gratefulness have been building outside
the store where nine firefighters lost
their lives.

This morning the tribute moves inside
the North Charleston Coliseum.. where
thousands of mourners and firefighters
from across the country are gathering
for a memorial service.

The coffins of the nine men who lost
their lives will rest inside the
arena.. six of those firefighters came
from the same firehouse. Engineer Art

Between 40 and 60 investigators are
combing through the charred rubble of
the Sofa Super Store trying to
determine the cause of the fire. A
crane helped speed along work Thursday
and the ATF reported fantastic
progress.

two windows to land at the Kennedy
Space Center yesterday because of bad
weather.

Today the shuttle will have five
more shots at touching down in either

projects in southwest Virginia. They're
part of the state's six-year plan

improvements to the intersection of
Route 11 and 220 at the Daleville exit
off Interstate 81.

Last night the public had chance
to see some of the options and
prioritize them.

have no idea when service will return.

Since then, crews have been
working on the water line that goes
back to 1936 in some places.

So far, they've repaired

the state re- opened yesterday- after
problems with a state computer system
forced them to shut down early
Wednesday.

The Tax Department, Social
Services, V-DOT and other agencies were
also affected.

The problem was caused when a
switch that connects to a state
mainframe failed.

Technicians have fixed the
problem and will install back- up
hardware this weekend.

They say no information was lost
or put at risk as a result of the
problem.
