heating up in Bedford.
Developers want to build a new

OQ=Tim Saunders, News 7. << With a perfect view of the Peaks
(END SOT) and a hospital right next door, many
say this land is one of Bedford's
hottest properties.
That's why residents in this
North Hills neighborhood weren't
surprised when a developer announced
plans to build a new housing project
here.
What did catch people off guard
was the type of housing the project
might create.
Peggy Vereen 1:08:08 "I think the
whole tone of the community will be
changed by this" 1:08:14
Peggy Vereen is part of a group
that's against re-zoning for the
Oakwood Villas project - a proposed
development of more than a hundred
townhomes on a span of 27 acres.
Residents say it won't fit in
with a neighborhood that's dominated by
single family homes.
1:14:23 "We're flooding the
community with 108 additional
properties, so how can that help real
estate in Bedford, except for the tax
base?" 1:14:31
Developers were unavailable for
comment, but in a statement to Bedford
City Council, they say their project
will offer a much needed housing
alternative.
They say the townhomes will be
well-maintained, with a property owners
association to keep residents in check.
Neighbors here say they're not
opposed to the project itself, they'd
just like to see it in another part of
town.
1:05:38 "It's not an elitist
area. This is not about personalities.
It's about maintaining our zoning as
it is now." 1:05:45
1:06:37 "We just want our
neighborhood preserved." 1:06:40
Residents will have a chance to
learn more about Oakwood Villas and
submit comments on the project at a
public hearing on July 10th.
The meeting is scheduled for 7:30
pm at the Bedford City Municipal
Building.

Plantation Pro Chip Sullivan was
diagnosed with diabetes and
hemochromatosis, a disorder in which
the body produces too much iron.
But Chip has fought thru his
health problems and today, made it look
easy in winning the PGA Club Pro's
National Championship in Sunriver,

The Golf Channel It was a blustery day in the
:00 Great Pacific Northwest.
But it didn't matter to Chip who
shot a blistering 32 on the front nine
and then was steady on the way in.
Here at 15, from the beach he puts it
close and would sink that putt for par.
Then at the 16th, Sullivan rolls
home the birdie, one of 6 on the day.
Chip finished the event at 6-under par,
good for a four shot win. With it
comes a check for 75 thousand bucks, a
trip to the PGA Championship in August
and 6 exemptions into PGA Tour events
over the next 12 months.

CBS Sports The PGA Tour stop was in
:00 Cromwell, Connecticut for the Travelers
Championship where former Scott
Robertson winner Hunter Mahan had
things on cruise control with a two
shot lead late in the round.
But Mahan faltered over the
final three holes opening the door for
Jay Williamson. Playing on a sponsor's
exemption this week, Williamson went to
a playoff with Mahan.
Mahan stuck his approach at the
18th in sudden death to about 18 inches
and tapped in for birdie and his first
Tour win.
