factor in a deadly accident on
Interstate 77.

It happened between the Fancy Gap
and Hillsville portion of the
interstate.

State police say 43 year old
Beverly Becraft of Austinville was
headed northbound when she lost control
of her PT Cruiser, struck a guard rail,
swerved back onto the interstate and
was struck by a tractor trailer.

Becraft died at the scene.

The driver of the tractor trailer
was not hurt.

milliliters of water.

Now the Water Control Board is
considering allowing more than 200-
colonies.

That means out of one- thousand
swimmers ten could get sick from e-
coli.... sickness that includes bloody
diarrhea and stomach cramps.

the Salem Fair is celebrating its 20th
anniversary and organizers say the fair
is stronger than ever.

way to bring people to the Salem Civic
Center because summer was typically a
quiet time of year.

City leaders didn't really know
what to expect, in fact many felt the
fair wouldn't last very long.

law, people are wondering why
Virginia's new "abuser fees" don't
apply to out of state drivers too.

It's because D-M-V will collect
the fees, as a condition for renewing

vehicle registrations for Virginia
residents.

As we've said before on News 7,
the fees place hefty fines on motorists
who drive recklessly or under the
influence of drugs or alcohol.

Money generated by the fees will
be used to maintain state roads.... and
are part of a massive transportation
funding bill.

Governor Tim Kaine today answered
calls about the new law during one of
his monthly radio shows.

local contractor pulled three,
4-thousand- gallon fuel tanks out of
the ground this week.

Two of the three had been in use
at Star Gas 'n' Go on Walnut Avenue in
Roanoke since 1974.

But there was a major fuel leak
here 10 years ago...and thousands of
gallons of gas went into the ground-
-across the street from the Roanoke
River.

Now -- the state is picking up
the tab.....its Storage Tank Clean-up
Fund will cover most of the costs.

County's Library in the past but today,
a new, more positive chapter opens...

The board of supervisors and the
library board announced Tuesday night
that a second facility will be built.

The New Branch Library will be
located on this land in the Westlake
Towne Center, adjacent to the new
Kroger and Westlake Cinemas.

The new facility will supplement
the services of the Central Library
opened in downtown Rocky Mount in 2004
and will offer transfer materials
between the two.

New Branch is expected to open in
January of 20-08.

list today..

There are now some ten thousand
mating pairs of bald eagles in the U-S.

That compares to just 417 mating
pairs in 19-63.

Conservationists say the eagle's

for Ashley Plantation golf pro Chip
Sullivan.

Sunday night out in Oregon he won
the PGA Club Pro Championship and since
then his cell phone has been ringing
non-stop with congratulatory messages.

Ashley Plantation Tonight the party continued as
Chip was thrown a surprise party at the
Country Club in Daleville.

With his wife Kari by his side -
Chip received a proclamation from the
Roanoke County Board of Supervisors

naming today Chip Sullivan Day.
Sullivan is a Louisiana native who has
been adopted by the greater Roanoke
Valley like no other.

Many of Chip's friends and
supporters were on hand for the
surprise party along with a crew from
the Golf Chanel.

It is the annual Glenvar
Highlanders basketball camp put on by
Head Coach Rick Crotts and his staff as
they teach the youngsters in the
Glenvar area the right way to play
basketball. They put the kids through
drills, that include one he made our
own Grant Kittelson do back in the day.

Joining Coach Crotts this week for camp
are some of his former players
including Donzell Williams who is line
for the starting point guard job this
season at Catawba College.

Folklife Festival is marking the 400th
anniversary of the founding of
Jamestown by exploring the roots of
Virginia Culture.

That covers a lot of territory

harness maker Danny Wingate and
