on Smith Mountain Lake where e- coli
levels registered four times the
acceptable amount.

water.... if you put that into a
formula eight swimmers out of one-
thousand could get sick.
Now, the water board is
considering allowing 206 bacteria
colonies.

CAM Now that it's about to become
GRAPHIC=ABUSER FEES law, people are wondering why
Virginia's new "abuser fees" don't
apply to out of state drivers too.

It's because D-M-V will collect
the fees, as a condition for renewing
vehicle registrations for Virginia
residents.
As we've said before on News 7,
the fees place hefty fines on motorists
who drive recklessly or under the
influence of drugs or alcohol.
Funds generated by the fees will
be used to maintain state roads.... and
are part of a massive transportation
funding bill.
Governor Tim Kaine today answered
calls about the new law during one of
his monthly radio shows.

Football Camp.
Haley has taken a winding road from
Salem High School to the University of
Virginia and now to the Baltimore
Ravens. And he's never given a second
thought to giving back to the community
where it all started.

underway today down at the Pine Needles
Course in Southern Pines, North
Carolina. Courtney Ellenbogen the 16
year old from Blacksburg High School
had a pretty decent opening 18 holes in
her first go around at a Major.
Ellenbogen shot a 74 good for 3 over
par. The leader is at 3 under par.

the Roanoke Valley Women's City County
Championship being played at Hidden
Valley.
Marilyn Bussey was looking to
overcome a 3 shot defecit when the day
began. She would shoot a 3-day total
of 237 to finish in second place.
She was unable to catch Dot
Bolling who puts another City County
Championship in her bookcase. Her
3-day total of 229 was good for an 8
shot victory.
