death has led to criminal charges
against his mother.

VO-NAT 15-year-old Tyler Coughlin died in May,
after he lost control while driving on
Timberview Road and struck a tree.

May 10 Today, police announced they have
charged his mother, Virginia Coughlin,
with allowing an unlicensed person to
drive and permitting the operation of
an uninsured motor vehicle.
Tyler Coughlin was a sophomore at
Northside High School. Police said at
the time he was not wearing a seatbelt
when he took his fatal drive.

methane gas.

34-year old Scott Showalter
climbed into a manure holding pit at
his farm last night- reportedly trying
to clear a pipe.
But, apparently the Mennonite
farmer was overcome by methane gas that
was emanating from the manure.
A farmhand tried to help.. so did
Showalter's wife and then
two-children--- all tried to help, but
they were also overcome by the odorless
and colorless gas and all died.
The news spread throughout the
farming community about the incident.
Every dairy farm has a "slurry"
pit to hold manure, but unlike the
Showalter farm many have moved away
from the smaller, covered "reception
pit" which is where the accident
happened.

at least three have managed to land
roster spots on NBA summer league
rosters.

The Denver Nuggets have invited
former Virginia Tech forward Coleman
Collins to be a part of their summer
league squad. Collins was overlooked
in last week's N-B-A draft, despite
turning heads at the pre-draft camps.
Collins was erratic his senior
season averaging just 8 points and 5
rebounds a game.
His teammate Jamon Gordon also
went undrafted, but he too will get a
shot at playing in the league.
The former Tech guard has been
added to the Dallas Mavericks summer
league roster.
And his backcourt mate - Zabian
Dowdell is now with the Seattle
Supersonics where he will play
alongside Kevin Durant.
Zabe averaged 17 points a game
for the Hokies last season.

The Five Million dollar Grand
Slam of Grass five race series not only
will include another stop at Colonial
Downs on July 21st, but the race will
be televised by CBS Sports.
This four race Turf Series is
similar to the Triple Crown in format.
All of the competing horses will
be three years olds. The first of the
four events was held on June 16th. The
purse for this event is One Million
bucks.

trying to sell the infamous property.

at its hefty pricetag.
The 14th century Bran Castle is a
top tourist attraction in Central
Romania.
It was once owned by Prince Vlad
the Impaler, the warlord whose cruelty
inspired Bram Stoker's 1897 novel.
The castle officially went on the
market yesterday.
No selling price was announced. But
the company handling the sale predicted
the castle would sell for more than
$135 million dollars.
Some 450,000 people visit the castle
every year.
