wondering if there would be fireworks
at the Salem Fair, and for the third
straight year, the answer is still
"NO".

Because of construction across the

street, the fair can no longer set them
off safely.

Fair officials say they could present a
much smaller fireworks show, but people
would probably find it disappointing,
and that's not what the fair wants to
see.

Since fireworks went away, July 4th
attendance at the Salem Fair has been

freight yard entered a float in today's
July 4th Parade.

Norfolk Southern announced one year ago
that its was looking at the

Shawsville-Elliston area to build a
Roanoke Valley intermodal yard. It
would move trailers between trucks and
trains.

Opponents claimed they were using July
4th to declare "independence from
corporate rule".

providing a new way to send out urgent
information. It comes in response to
the April 16th shootings.

The university launched a new
text alert system on Monday, and
three-thousand people have already
signed up for the program.

Students, staff and faculty who
give the university their cell phone
numbers will get text messages on their
phones during emergencies.

The system will be fully

tractor pull took on new meaning this
holiday.

Hundreds came out to Sinkland
Farms, not just for the fun, but also
to honor the memory of Henry Sink

He was well-known for opening up
his farm to the community and holding
events like the tractor pull.

The event raised money for his
memorial fund as well as the Riner Fire
Department.

spent hours of their holiday fighting
flames near the Norfolk Southern
tracks.

An old railroad building caught
fire around 10:30 this morning and
burned for most of the afternoon.

Flames could be seen from a
nearby neighborhood and smoke was
visible for miles.

The building was abandoned and
fire officials say no other property
was in danger.

So far, we have no word on how it

Gore was arrested this morning on
suspicion of drug possession.

Here's the police mug shot of Al Gore
the Third taken earlier today.

And this is video of him from Norfolk
area in 2000, the year he pleaded
guilty to driving 97 in a 55 zone.

This time, he was stopped in Orange
County, California, where deputies say
he was doing 100+ in his Toyota Prius.
Authorities say they found a small
amount of marijuana along with
prescription drugs including Valium,
Xanax, Vicadin and Adderall in Gore's
car.

He was released after posting
20-thousand dollars bail.

Lynchburg Hillcats celebrated the 4th
on the diamond tonight in the Hill
City. Lynchburg got on the board
first, but the Avs came back to win
their second straight game by a final

for the Avalanche. The two will close
out their series tomorrow night before

the inaugural AT&T National Tour event
