about a new law that's aimed directly
at them.

18 can no longer talk, text, or take
photos on their cellphone while
driving.
They can only use their cell if
they have an emergency while behind the
wheel
Keep in mind this is not a
primary offense, meaning police cannot
stop teens just for chatting on their
cell phone while driving.
There has to be another
infraction.

low-incomes.
Governor Tim Kaine announced a
tax break yesterday for the poor, to be
phased in during the next couple of
years.

Kaine says 300-thousand
Virginians will be eliminated from the
state income tax rolls.
The change started Sunday, and
includes 140-thousand people who were
paying taxes-- that will no longer have
to pay any.
The rest had to file, then wait
for refunds.
You will now have to make more
money before any state taxes are taken
out.

sounds of fireworks-- chances are, your
dog doesn't.

for Animal Control and Protection was
overwhelmed by 90 dogs who ran away on
the Fourth.
The loud noises from fireworks
scare dogs just like thunder.
The Center says the best thing
pet owners can do is to leave their
dogs at home for the fireworks show.

including a history lesson in its
daytime Independence Day celebration.
The Frontier Fort will be at the
center of the planned activities with
plenty of events for children and
adults alike.

different time-periods with each
representing a day in the life for that
era.
Today will be no different.
There will be musket, canon, and
rifle fire typical of an Independence
Day celebration for the

in the pre-Revolutionary War areas as
well... so those forts will still be
under British rule.

keep track of sex offenders here in
Virginia..
Now a new website allows you to
do the same with dangerous dogs....

dog registry website yesterday.
It allows you to click on an area
and find the dogs deemed dangerous by
the courts.
But you'll also find information
about the dogs' owners, including
names, addresses and even phone
numbers.

Clifton Forge has tested positive for
rabies.
The health department says the
cat was captured Friday in the western
part of the town and a test performed
Saturday confirmed a rabies diagnosis.
A spokesman for the Alleghany
Health District did not have a more
detailed location of the attack or
capture.
The health department asks
citizens to report any human or pet
exposure with a calico cat.

Medical Center will be addressed and
citizens will have some input on the
solutions ... that's from the
hospital's owners who were called
before Danville City Council last
night.

LifePoint Hospitals took over
the D-R-M-C two years ago ... residents
and staff have complained about
inadequate patient care, a shortage of
nurses and poor communication with
upper management.
A citizens commission presented
its findings on the situation to city
council last night, calling for a
separate review panel to address
ongoing problems.
LifePoint agreed to the idea and
says it will participate.
