GRAPHIC=Accident An accident in Blacksburg last
night sent two teenagers to the
hospital.
Police say 17 year old, Victoria
DeVilbiss was driving on Prices Fork
Road when she hit an emabankment and
flipped her vehicle.
DeVilbiss was air-lifted to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital with multiple
serious injuries.
Her passenger, 18-year-old
Zachary Quesenberry of Dublin, was
taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital.
Alcohol was found at the scene
and police are still trying to
determine if the teenagers had been
drinking.
Both the driver and the passenger
were wearing their seat belts.

farmer was honored yesterday.

Farm in Riner for the annual fourth of
July tractor pull.
More than 200 tractors were
registered to compete and dozens more
were there to cheer on their favorites.

owner.
Henry Sink died a little more
than a month ago in a motorcycle
accident.
They say Sink loved being with
friends and enjoyed being outside the
most.

protest for one group in Shawsville.

Citizens against a proposed
Internmodal freight yard entered a
float in yesterday's July 4th Parade.
Norfolk Southern announced one
year ago that it was considering the
Shawsville-Elliston as a place to build
a Roanoke Valley intermodal yard, one
that would move trailers between trucks
and trains.
Opponents claimed they were using
July 4th to declare "independence from
corporate rule".

in Christiansburg.
Town leaders say a contractor
will start building the much talked
about Aquatic Center any day now.

doing the job, and the architect is
finalizing plans with council.
Town workers have used heavy
equipment in the last year to prepare
the 17 acres site for building.
The facility will house three
pools - a 50 meter competition pool, a
family pool and a therapy pool.
Last year town officials took out
a bond to cover the 12 million dollar
plan.
It should be completed by
December, 2008.

GRAPHIC=none A two-year old girl is back with
her mother after she was allegedly
abducted by her baby-sitter for a short
time last night.
Blacksburg Police say 19 year-old
Mariah Beth Ramsey took the girl to a
house in Radford.
She called the mother, and told
her that the child would not be
returned.
Police located Ramsey 20 minutes
later in Blacksburg and arrested her
and a companion.
Ramsey is charged with abduction
and is free on bond.

GRAPHIC=FIRE Christiansburg firefighters spent
hours yesterday battling flames near
the Norfolk Southern tracks.

An old railroad building caught
fire around 10:30 yesterday morning and
burned for most of the afternoon.
Flames could be seen from a
nearby neighborhood and smoke was
visible for miles.
The building was abandoned and
fire officials say no other property
was in danger.
So far, we have no word on how it
started.

community are getting a high- tech
warning system as close as their cell
phones.

a Tech launched a new text alert
system Monday and 3- thousand people
have already signed up for the program.
Students, staff and faculty who
give the university their cell phone
numbers will get text messages on their
phones during emergencies.
The system will be fully
operational on August 20th... the first
