cancer.
Chance Harman died this afternoon
from complications stemming from a
malignant brain tumor.

Chance was actually responding well
to treatment but last week he took a
turn for the worse after experiencing a
seizure.
It had been increasingly clear in the
last few days Chance wasn't going to
make it.
His parents Brian and Desiree were at
his side until the end.

on Michael Vick's Surry County
property.

documents today...This as agents
searched the property again.
Vick is not named in the
paperwork but agents describe his
property as a "main staging area for
housing and training pit bulls involved
in the dogfighting venture."
Feds date the dogfighting as
far back as 2002...saying people and
dogs traveled from all over the country
to take part.
No charges have been filed at
this point but Bad Newz Kennels is
repeatedly mentioned in the documents.
Vick has previously said he
rarely visits the property and
relatives have taken advantage of his
kindness.

request to withdraw his guilty plea.

Last year, Startz shot and killed
his ex girlfriend, Donna Angelo at the
Fairlawn Walmart.
Startz pleaded guilty to the
crime but then changed his mind saying
that anti-depressant drugs drove him to
murder.
The judge ruled today that Startz
could NOT take back his plea, because
there was no evidence he would have a
valid defense.
He will be sentenced in August.

Mountain Lake for a boater who went
missing three months ago - this week.
Crews have been looking for 44
year-old David Reynolds of Grottoes
since the boat he was in capsized.

what happened is complete, but the
search for the missing boater is far
from over.
The Virginia Department of Game
and Inland Fisheries determined a
combination of factors triggered the
accident, including a defect with the
boat.
The agency now wants to find
Reynolds to bring the same type of
closure for his family.

Conservation Police continue to
probe the waters near Smith Mountain
Lake Park where the accident occured.
Daily they have patrols in the
area doing spot checks.
They believe Reynolds is probably
lodged amongst the trees and debris

90 days have passed since his
disappearance, they're confident about
recovering him.

is trying to stop the town from
applying new restrictions to its plans
to build a shopping center on 40 acres
along South Main Street.
The plan includes a spot for a
186-thousand square foot retail store,
which is widely believed to be a
Walmart.
The judge says Fairmount must
first appeal to the town's Board of
Zoning Appeals before continuing with
the lawsuit.

his post for both personal and
professional reasons.

Since new president Penny Kyle
took over at Radford, Dave Braine has
been used as a consultant for the
athletic program on several key issues.

Speed This is how things looked this
afternoon as Bill Elliott took the Wood
Brothers Ford out onto the track just
after 4pm. It was sunny and hot for his
two laps.
But shortly before five pm a
passing shower hit the track and then
just after 6:30 take a look at this.
Heavy rain forced qualifying to
be cancelled for the for the first time
in 97 races for the Pepsi 400.
Thirty-Nine drivers had gone out to
qualify and Boris Said was on the pole
when the rains came.
But because 13 drivers never got
to qualify before NASCAR cancelled it -
the whole thing is a wash and Said goes
from starting first to not even getting
in the race.
In all, 10 drivers didn't make it
including Michael Waltrip, Ward Burton
and Jeremy Mayfield who was third when
the rains came.
The field will be started based
owners points giving Jeff Gordon and
Denny Hamlin the front row.
